Coronavirus

We are not worried about transmission or infection. We are worried about hospitalisations. When 87% of the adult population of the country is vaccinated yet 85% of hospitalisations are unvaccinated that tells you the vaccines are working well. So to protect the health service you close down mass events, bars etc... or stop the unvaccinated going to them.
Since it is the unvaccinateds choice to be unvaccinated in the vast majority of cases, i think it totally fair. They're the ones that are putting us in this situation. Why should i or bar owners be punished for their choice?

True but I think it's overreach by a government to say you can't leave your house unless you get vaccinated. You could go further and say well in that case I won't bother paying taxes if you can't receive the health care or other services you pay for.

I dunno. Part of me agrees part doesn't.

A government should there to protect society as a whole. Not individual freedoms.

Do you think any of the lockdowns were justified?

Some people would say that protecting society is part of respecting individual freedoms. Going by that logic why don't we ban smoking and make it illegal not to eat vegetables and other healthy foods? Should we ban booze while we're at it as well.

I wasn't anti lockdown but there's a big difference between it applying to everyone and those who haven't been jabbed. Where do you draw the line is really the question to ask?

I think a fair compromise is to treat unvaccinated in field hospitals by St. John's staff. So they receive care, but they are triaged lower than everyone else's needs

Why should we have laws or a police force? Let people do what they want.

Smoking, booze isn't going to overwhelm a health service. Or other services including food, police, fire... Exponential growth of covid cases will.

You obviously don't understand what that means.

Everyone has been exposed in the uk. Treating vaccinated and unvaccinated differently here is pointless.

Disagree. GB is saying unvaxed should be left in a warehouse whilst proper hospitals would be reserved for use by vaxed people.

Yeah my mum had a bad reaction to the flu jab this year. Lost strength in one of her legs for a week. All 3 covid shots she was fine.

Sorry to hear that. My mum usually feels rotten following her annual flu jab but was fine with this year’s, I’m guessing that the over-65s version being slightly different might help explain why I’m feeling like death warmed up today.

I have never had a flu jab untill last week but because the gave me the choice to have it along with my booster for Covid i took it, do not think i would do so again to be honest.

I had flu jab for first time in 2019 and felt bit run down the following week but this year’s has really left me feeling awful; probably didn’t help that some bug bit me on the neck causing a load of hives at start of November and in hindsight I might’ve been better off waiting another week to make sure that was completely out of the system. Might risk another flu jab next autumn to see if 3rd time’s a charm but another reaction like this and I’ll just take my chances with influenza.

By which time they are replaced by others who have grown old and vulnerable.
Not quite.
There was a larger pool of older and vulnerable at the start.
Over the next year or two less people will make it through (depending on the impact of the vaccinations).

I think the people, who are mainly arguing that we shouldn't have locked down. Can't grasp the concept of exponential.

If cases are doubling every week. If by week 10 a quarter of hospital beds are full of covid patients. Week 11 it will be half. Week 12 you are full. Week 13...

If by week 10 5% of your health care workers are ill, week 11 it's 10%. Week 12 20%. Week 13…

We saw with hgv drivers. How that effects food, petrol etc...

Banks being closed. Cash machines not filled.

Everything.

It would be a lockdown anyway. Just not controlled.

Who is left to infect though? It's blown through the kids and most of the anti-vaxers now. All we will get is much milder reinfections, which will nearly all be colds or asymptomatic (we're pretty much there already, apart from the last antivaxer remnants)

How do you know anti vaxxers haven't had covid already?
Just because you haven't had the jab doesn't mean you haven't had covid.
The biggest pressure on the NHS is coming from the lack of care for over 18 months.
There is only one outcome to a continuing postponement of treatment for chronic illness, and its not a good one.

Because 87% of people in hospital are anti-vaxers, yet they are less than 10% of the population. That strongly suggests that's the only fuel left in the fire, although hopefully it's nearly all spent

The 18 months of no other care is why I suggested having field hospitals for anti-vaxers, so all other services can resume at 100%. Triage them out of mainstream care

I was talking past tense, about the first two lockdowns. But since we have waning immunity everyone can get reinfected. But we won't lockdown again. Only 1% of infections are ending up in hospital now.

87% were not vaccinated. Not any longer. Now the majority of people in hospital are vaccinated. Everyone has been exposed. Since july/august 93% of people had antibodies. This hasn't increased, even though we've had millions of cases. This is due to waning immunity.

Natural immunity through exposure is better than a jag, so why maje a choice of who gets treatment based on a jag?
If you have had covid but no jag you are in a better place than no covid but been jagged.
There is no difference between them on ability to pass it on.
So isolation on that basis is wrong.

In the uk i'd agree with you to a certain extent. In many european countries though not everyone has been exposed. There are many people with no immunity at all as they have not had infection or vaccination.

Austria although they say it's a lockdown of the unvaccinated that's not exactly true. If you have had prior infection you don't need to lockdown.

I pay scant attention to other countries, its way too nuanced for me to have the time or inclination to be informed enough to hold a proper debate on. Every country is facing its own issues.
Truth be told i pay only a passing interest in what is reported here as well.
I keep myself to myself, don't socialise, and minimise my contact with the outside world.
I absorb info from various sources, observe my world, and through work have insights into some other information.
I have had one jag and for medical reasons have had to postpone my second.
