Coronavirus

it's gonna get real bad soon, just based on this virus transmissability. Can only see full lockdown inclusive of school closures.

We should be drafting the military in NOW to admister vaccinations round the clock (non-figuratively 24/7). There shouldn't be boxes of vials lying around, every one of them needs to be ready to go, we need a wartime effort on getting this going asap.

Based on the numbers we're seeing, there is absolutely zero chance of coming out of T4 any time soon. This new variant is too strong, only way out is mass vaccination.

Why not 24/7 or at least till say 10PM and start up again at 6 if there's staff and doses available, not ideal for some of the older folk but for some of the others I'm sure they'd happily take their jab in the evening. If I was to get one I'd have no issue turning up at 3am if necessary.

Over 70s and the clinically vulnerable.

I hope so but fear there is little chance of restrictions being significantly lifted until the full vaccination program is complete.

Modelling at that juncture will show the nhs resources rapidly swamped by an out of control R, even if death rates have slowed considerably.

Absolutely.

What's really a joke is that an organisation that can and has spent as much of our money as they have, doesn't have a central database of who has qualified for what.

The nhs cannot hold details of medical qualifications and cpd for those they do not employ.

If the death rates are next to nothing things will open up.

I thought the tweet with the pub idea as local venues was actually a decent idea.(for the Oxford vac) Usually parking, seperate in and out doors, seating for pre an post vac, fridges behind the bar, and the bar as a natrual barrier between health proffesional and public (maybe with screens?) They are a venue that stays open late usually, so nothing out of the norm for nearby residents. Keeps people away from doctor surgeries as well. Landlord/lady can receive a site fee as well.

Under 50s who aren't clinically vulnerable aren't dying in any large number.

But there are 30 million of them and letting covid run amok will cause much death.

Also don’t forget the az vaccine only works for about 80% if we are lucky, so you have another 6 million of the higher ranked vulnerables with no immunity (okay apart from the Pfizer vaccine subset).

Optimistically I am hoping things may get better by April/May. Realistically I am thinking it will be June/July when life is close to back to normal. It’s too depressing to think life might not be back to normal until the autumn or later. I know there are bigger and more important things but I really miss travelling aside from missing my family of course. My health, family’s health and monetary situation are most important but having a holiday to look forward to is also getting me through this period. Won’t even consider booking anything until we have a clearer picture of when life will improve though.

It shouldn't run amok if we have sufficient hospital capacity by vaccinating the most at risk.

The efficiency figures for the AZ vaccine does not mean that 20% don't get any protection. They may get less severe symptoms after being vaccinated. The methodology in the various trials were different, so we cannot do direct comparisons on efficiency.

We also do not know whether the vaccines have an impact on transmission, if they do, then vaccination protects everyone and that protection gets greater as more people are vaccinated.

No one who received the AZ vaccine in the trial developed strong enough symptons requiring them to be taken to hospital. I'm sure in real life some will be but I don't think it's quite like having 6 million people walking around at the same risk of dying as before.
