Coronavirus

If you're still having to lock down, then the initial one was pointless.

The only countries where that has been successfull are ones that entered lockdown early and had very strict measures. Once they had the virus under control, they were able to relax measures by maintaining strict controls on international travel.

By delaying a lockdown until the virus was widespread, we've been stuck with trying to limit the damage by putting restrictions in place to stop the health service being overwhelmed.

I think they should go to more trade oriented schools after the 12+ - at least that way they'll learn something they can use.

The education system in this country has a lot to answer for, continuously pushing everyone to try and go to uni and making out learning a trade is only for the idiots left over. This is also what leads to trades getting a bad rep because in the main people going into them have been told they're stupid, and won't do anything with their life.

Learning a trade should be respected, you'll earn far more money than the average person with a history or art type degree, look at how many people moan they went to uni and now have loads of debt and no job. If they'd learnt a trade they'd have no debt and assuming you're good a job for life, decent money and you'll likely save a load of money by being handy round the house.

I've yet to see any that didn't have to use authoritarian style rule to do so.

Some things are simply unacceptable under any circumstances.

Do you not remember the reaction Trump got when stopping travel from China?

If we had even attempted to limit international travel the r word would have been thrown around the room like @scaramanga mum in a hotel room.

Trump's travel ban didn't apply to US residents, was limited to people who had been to China but was after the disease had spread to multiple countries, including the US.

Spain was the main country where we imported it from. We had months between the initial outbreak and then to develop plans for managing it. I doubt that we could've kept it out indefinitely but we could've delayed it. We could've maintained a test and isolation policy for longer, if we had kept numbers down.

The argument playing off public health and economic impact is false. The countries that have suffered the least economic impact are the ones that were proactive and lockdown early.
