Coronavirus

Further talks on whether to revise Covid rules over Christmas in the UK will take place on Wednesday.

Cabinet minister Michael Gove discussed the issue with senior politicians in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, but no final decision was made

Essential goods shops always stay open, so the non internet offering or people with no web access are happily catered for.

. We are talking about NON essential goods. That picture above of Regent/Oxford St. I'd hazard a guess that 95% of those shops have online stores and 95% of those shoppers have smartphones/broadband indoors etc. The rabid craving for 'non essential' retail therapy is on them.

Believe me if my mum can get stuff delivered to her house, its a low bar we're setting.

I'm not disagreeing but it's not as black and white as it seems, 4% of the UK don't have internet (https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...s/internetaccesshouseholdsandindividuals/2020) and I'd assume of those that do a few percent wouldn't know how to use online stuff.

Doesn't excuse that picture but I imagine lots of people out at the shops will be buying presents, some of which might not be available online. I know of a few people who went out to buy things from smaller shops because they knew they've had a tough year is one example.

Zero chance I'm going to another shop this year but I will try and order from smaller retailers where I can.

Most out shopping are those in the danger zone, seems they are making their own choices and taking their own risks, that's the point isn't it? Life's about personal choice, people prepared to take risk on own health because they realise being locked away is no life

I do not have to choose, natural selection takes care of that, you cant stop death its a fact of life.

Are you a Christian Scientist?
Do you believe that anyone who gets cancer should be left untreated so as we can see what "natural selection" has in store for them?
Do you accept that many illnesses and viruses are further consequences of what we have done to the planet?

See, it's all very glib and factual to espouse Darwinism, but do you actually believe in it or just bits of it which suit you?

A certain number of people die each year of various illness, that is life, we try and cant save everyone, show me someone who has lived forever?

To give a comparable view I would rather concentrate saving kids life from Cancer or those that have the rest of their lives to live potentially over an 82 year old Covid patient yes, its prioritizing based on life expectancy and quality of life.

I am not picking the bits that suit me, its just common sense to look at things with logic rather than sentiment. Average age of death in UK is 81, Average age of death is 82, so lets ruin society for people who are unfortunately going to pass away in a large % other other illness even if we save them from the risk of Covid? But thats ok as long as its not Covid? Its odd and disproportionate to the worlds problems.

We live in a country rich enough to protect both.

Brilliant post and true, we have to get on with life and not giving to much attention to the virus.

Problem with that approach is that hospitals in N Ireland are already treating Covid patients in hospital car parks - that off the back of a strict four week lockdown.

It doesn’t take much to imagine the scenario across the UK if we ‘get on with life and...don’t give too much attention to the virus.’

Its a matter of opinions, only arrogant people would believe theirs is the only one

If you believe your granny is going to live forever more fool you

If you believe your granny choking to death due to a virus which could have been far better contained, isn't a big deal then that's on you. Out of interest given your name, are you a fan?

Of the game yes, not the man.

My Granny is dead, my Grandad is old enough to be a risk but lives each day as he did anyway because he knows a 75 year old man regardless of Covid life was worth living, it is his risk to take, not for me to tell him how to live. His views is what is another 5 years if those 5 years are locked away, I think he has a point and not just because he is my Grandad but because he knows to counter the risks he can stay in doors and we would do whats needed to respect that and keep him safe. As I say its choice.

The chocking granny talk is always chucked in to make someone seem like the devil incarnate so you can play that game if you like
