No. 1 is to be better prepared. Around December/Jan governments were observing what was going on, and planning. in Feburary, our PM skipped 5 Cobra meetings!! Five! If you are to lockdown - make sure it works!! If you are going to close the nation, do it well! Make sure it is for a reason, not just going through the motions. And get testing and tracking in place to maintain things when you open up. Ensure visitors are screened. Secure the nation. The faster and more stringent the lockdown the quicker the UK recovers. In theory, a two week draconian lockdown should get things under control.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but even at the time, people were calling for the right things - faster action, better testing etc. Our government were the least prepared it seems.

I don't disagree with your points but you can't make sweeping statemens of lockdown wasn't hard enough then not come up with anything you would have made harder.

At present it is small in both volume and significant impact, hopefully it stays that way. But it should not be dismissed as irrelevant yet.

I'm not dismissing it as irrelevant, just a considerably smaller risk than the alternative of a fudged economy.

We should be taking steps to prevent the huge and known risk we see, not cowering from one that may never exist.

I see the latest line is only 300 people have died for flu? Seems odd as on average there is around 18k a year... I wonder if those that would have died are victims of covid

We should be taking steps to prevent the huge and known risk we see, not cowering from one that may never exist.

Add to that trans-atlantic "leadership" which shows the plan and leadership of an ADHD adolescent, and we have a total failure of govmt to send anything close to a consistent yet safe message. Add to the mix these fudging idiots who think wearing a mask is a violation other rights, and we have a situation where the public must figure it out. I think it is simple. Wear a mask in public areas with other people, socially distance, and we can move through with some degree of semi-normalcy. It is the "libertarian" cries which seem to fudge things up.

3. Explain to people what the plan is. Get everyone isolating for x amount of time. Get a national unity and belief in lockdown.
4. Get the army involved. Ensure people are observing.
5. Set up testing centers quickly using all the many small labs accorss the UK, with the army doing the logistics.

It is very simple, if you are going to close a nation, make sure you do it properly to really stop the transmission of the virus. Otherwise, why cause all the pain? A half-arsed lockdown is worse than none at all.

The current measures are to stop the spread of covid.
The conversation about long covid was about awareness of its existence and potential impact - that exists presently and should be analysed alongside the other measures, not in conjunction with at this stage.

What is fuelling people is the gov is not coming forward with answers to basic questions such as science behind the curfew / false positive and PCR testing issues - these could be pretty easy to respond to.

instead of doing this they keep releasing more flawed data such as Whitty’s evidence today to the Northern leaders.

You can't see that government planning, communication, and speed of response are crucial during a pandemic?

Outlining that the army can help to implement testing rapidly (setting up test sites, moving samples to labs etc), or that the army could help to enforce a lockdown are "vague" statements?
