Still cannot book a test 72 hours later.I never said that everything was perfect, just pointing out that a lot of people are getting tests carried out whereas the media have made it out as though it's not possible for anyone to get a test which clearly isn't the case.
The UK government has made monumental errors many of which have stemmed from hubris. Not taking it seriously at the beginning, abandoning test and trace, the entire top teams dealing with the pandemic going down with the disease, Cummings doing as he pleases, diverting energy of schools into getting kids back for three weeks rather enabling kids to sit exams, then blaming everyone but themselves for the mistakes. Even the most ardent Tory surely can admit this government has been found wanting and it’s not just about a once in a lifetime crisis. The man who advised them said the same at time. He said hard decisions and hard discussions to be had that would make it uncomfortable for some but were unavoidable.
He accepted mistakes would be made but they had to make the best decision for them, like its been said when all choices are bad you have yo make the best bad decsions.
One thing they have been is consistent and clear, they taking a long term view to best way to navigate the waters, you look at the success stories I've seen levelled on here and they are followed up with failure. NZ is its own case but they were cheered and placed up as Virus free then they see it spike again and because of their preferred way to deal with it, that was disaster and now their public are shouting about tourism and the economy. That's the issue with lockdown, open, lockdown, open. Its no plan to move forward
Our main issue now in UK is lack of decisions now rather than bad ones in my opinion. I think keeping us in a holding pattern isn't a decision TBH
Everyone will get things wrong though, the experts have been made fools by this virus, the advise from the WHO originally turned out to be a crock, just an example. Posts on here early on referencing experts whose ideas were then found to be wrong later down he line, just proves everyone's learning on the move.
That said and back to the original point Sweden has a plan that runs along side that learning rather than letting it dictate to them

Thatcher, Brown and Blair had their detractors, often with good reason, but one thing is for sure they would have worked until they dropped to make sure the country wasn’t in such a mess. For me Boris’s biggest problems are laziness, arrogance and lack of attention to detail. It’s the country who is paying for it.
If we're using the Germans I suppose there's a chance it is world beating after all?
We spent the last few months Telling people without symptoms To get tested - now we are seeing this was stupid.
The real problem is that the symptoms are mainly that which anyone with the common cold/flu can have..so everyone and ya mama is eventually going to have to "get tested" in the autumn...
The key ones i've always felt would be to look for would be loss of smell/taste AND a combination of at least one or two of some of the others.

Pretty much all the kids in my daughter's class have 'colds' since being back since last Monday ...what is one (or the school) to do?
likewise, ours have said to only keep them out if they have other major symptoms, every school kid (and parent of) has a cold mid September
