What’s also interesting is that the official PL rules state that if fixtures cannot be completed then the entire season is void...
And that’s why they won’t can it
They would do everything to keep it going even if work die (as long as they cannot associate them with a match)

It's the knock-on effects too. Does everything revert to how things ended last season? CL qualification - eg. does this mean Leicester don't get CL next season? (silver linings etc). If the PL season is declared void, what about the EFL? No promotions, because the PL has had no relegations. Same for lower leagues.
It would be a hell of a mess to have to sort out.

The options that I saw floated were:
  1. Things as they stand
  2. Last year's finishing positions
  3. Play-offs for all teams that are mathematically in contention

I favour 2 or 3

@Glenda's Legs - the big issue in the lower leagues would be clubs going under without gate receipts

Yeah, that will definitely be a problem, but likely will be the case even if fixtures can still be fulfilled : I can't see that we are not going to reach a stage of games being played behind closed doors.
The FA, EFL and even PL may have to dig into their emergency fund reserves to help out in some way.

The biggest surprise here, obviously, is that a pandemic threatening to void the entire season happens now - and not in a scenario where Spurs are cruising towards their first league title in 60 years.

I'd hazard a guess a fair few Liverpool fans might've been expecting it though...

In that case the world will just end the day before :)

We've had an email from our COO
Basically anybody in our company who has a cold, cough, flu type symptoms has to go home for 10 days
Cue a big rush of tinkletakers leaving and seeing this as an opportunity to not go to work or even work for 10 days
