Contingency planning : When Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

For me Slot was always the one. A pragmatic manager that also coaches the kind of football players like to play. Some people are saying that he used us to get a better deal at Feyenoord, but I think he would have come to us if we had thrown enough money at him and Feyenoord. I was always hoping that he would succeed Ange, but with our luck Klopp decided to call it quits when he did and Pool smartly snatched him up at a time when we were not looking for a manager.

So that leaves us with Alonso as the only up-and-coming manager out there. He's going to be infinitely more difficult to get than Slot back in 2023, but we should go all out for him.

He's waiting on one of the big roles ..

I think we need to reset, goal will be to get back to top 5 finishes, probably for a couple of years, don't think we need the best manager in the world for that, we just need someone good, hopefully with an upside

I think we could've got Slot if we paid up the 20m or whatever it was rumoured to get him out of his contract. Remember he was close to joining someone like Palace or Leeds a few months before (I can't remember who it was) so it wasn't like he wasn't ready to jump ship.

He wanted to come
We wouldnt pay the fee
I said it before we was linked that we wanted him. The guys I knew even said he had agreed everything with us but we hadn’t with Feyenoord

I thought the story was that Spurs didn't want to pay the compensation fee to get Slot from Feyenoord?

With that in mind I suspect we should be thinking about managers who are 'free' if looking for an Ange replacement.

It's quite impressive what he's done there, considering all of the great players they have had, and money that has been spent, its quite an average squad now, Donnarumma aside, yet he seems to get more consistency out of them.
It’s an outstanding squad
Arguably the best full backs in the world
A couple of outstanding CMs
And wide players who hurt you
Their miles better because they are better
