Contingency planning : If Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Well it's just you compare the patience of fans and club with Ange compared to, say, Nuno.

Nuno's style is similar to Moyes. You can see at Wolves and ar Forest that he can build a very competitive PL side with limited resources. But basically as soon as results started going wobbly there was zero patience whereas there are still people being patient with Ange who has presided over one of the worst calendar years of results in recent history and basically that's down IMO to style of play. Fans are far more bought into what Ange is "trying" to achieve so are more willing to give him more time to see if he can actually achieve it.

With Moyes and Nuno (and Mourinho and Conte), they build teams that get results pragmatically and so there's not so much enjoyment in watching the attempt to gain the result and when they don't get the results the feeling quickly sets in that it's pointless

It's a great post.

The only thing I would add is that our squad has been developed over 3-4 years to play front foot, entertaining football. So a transition from Ange to another manager with a similar football philosophy should be quite straightforward. Not dissimilar to the Poch - Maresca transition.

In some ways guys like Moyes would raise the same arguments that Allardyce did. He always said that given a squad like Real Madrid's he'd play amazingly attractive football. On the surface though, you'd get the feeling that our squad would need more surgery if a Frank or Moyes came in. In reality, we're at a point where our squad is developing well but it's not elite yet.

Our worst scenario is Southgate coming in. If you think there are question marks now about whether Ange really knows what he's doing in this league, I can't imagine Southgate being up close and personal with us Spurs fans. You'd see flaws everywhere with that guy. He really doesn't know what he's doing, unlike a Moyes who clearly does.

I think you've taken this much more seriously than I intended.

A front foot coach is absolutely what we need next in the event that Ange doesn't keep his job. I don't believe that he is the only person that could possibly get something front this squad. I actually think a more conventional approach with certain elements would get more from it. Like playing Udogie as an orthodox outside FB rather than someone who plays inside all the time.

I can see a Naglesmann, Marco Silva, Irolaoa, Rose, Terzic, Arrasate etc all being able to shape the existing squad Into something. They'd all want their own additions as should be expected but the major rebuild and foundations have all been laid. At this point I'd expect any reasonably tactically astute and attack balanced coach to be able to come in and do well with the squad.

Perhaps but Moyes actually isn't s bad shout, other than his style of play. As in, if you're not bothered about that sort of thing, Moyes is by far the best PL experienced manager easily available right now. So for the right club, he'd probably be the go-to solution.

Moyes has said recently that he doesn't want to join a club in a relegation battle. If we sack Ange, it will be because we have put ourselves into a relegation battle and by that stage Ange isn't trusted to get us out of it.

Dreadful manager, the only club he got above 50% win rate hilariously was United, his Everton & West Ham record is sub 45%, effectively his best numbers would be a firing offense at Spurs. You can dig deeper and find his record against top clubs when in those roles is horrific.

I'd also add, the game changes, fitness, tactics. View of things like data usage are probably way out of someone like Moyes comfort zone (and yes, could be wrong), but generally my hope is our key criteria for next coach (whenever it happens)

- Ability to play front foot football (to @Bishop's point)
- Progressive in things like fitness, data usage, ability to work with DoF structure, etc.

Especially with Southgate in the running as the lead candidate.
Would not get Southgate whatsoever:
1) Plays defensive football
2) Poor record/inexperience in club management

The only plus point for the club would be as a brand ambassador because for some reason he's a bit of a favourite of the non-football wokerati. So i could see him help in sponsorship or investment negotiations - maybe that's the link....

Unfortunately I have heard a little whisper that Levy rates and likes Southgate

Injuries, but we beat City and Utd with the same teams. He doesn't adjust to fit the players, just his stubborn ideas. The bloke is an out and out fool
Totally agree, but there are so called members who would happily see us relegated twice because Ange plays entertaining football. The man hasn't go a clue, he's arrogant, he's stubborn, but I suppose he is Levy's yes man and he's cheap

I don't think there is anyone on here who would happily see us relegated once, let alone twice.

There are just some of us who would like to see us stick with a manager for once when we're going through a bad spell instead of having a 12 to 18 month cycle of changing the manager and not ever looking like we'll do something significant

How many times has this been said? I mean, Mourinho said it, right? We expected Conte to 'prove it' didn't we? At a certain point history is undeniable. BTW, what is the definition of 'doing well'?
