Circus ManUnitus - Nobody's At The Wheel

If i were Emirates Marketing Project or Arsenal i'd be very worried about LVG and Manure.

Yep, their football looks turgid because their attacking play is lacking a bit atm, but there defence is ROCK SOLID and they are only 2 points behind...

I wouldn't be, unless they can get a senior/experienced striker in January, they simply lack the firepower to win the title.

I think you are underestimating LVG and Manure a bit here; Fergie won titles with worse teams and also PL titles have been won with worse strikeforces.
Yes, the football at the moment when you look at their net spend and compared to previous Manure sides is awful, but if there is a manager that could pull this off again it's LVG...

if only they had one of their greatest forwards of all time available, you know, the sort of player that has scored over 200 goals for the club

The last time Manure won the title they had RVP play the season of his life with 30 goals, which kind of proves my point ..

Last few successful teams have had Costa, Acquire, RVP to win, even Pool's close 2nd only came about because of Suarez ...

And not meaning to be a dingdong .. but LVG is not SAF ...

If you think the Rooney of 2015 is the greatest of anything ... not even a conversation to have ...

And Manure have won titles under SAF with brick strikers which is my point. And if we want to compare LVG with SAF (I didn't, if anything they were/are both strong coaches but in different ways), LVG won the league title with AZ Alkmaar......the equivalent of winning the PL with Everton...no mean feat.

For all SAF's achievements, when did he get a team to overachieve to that same level?

As i say, i'm not necessarily saying one is better than the other, just that you can't dismiss one against the other so easily either

Not sure about that at all, Fergie bought 17 strikers during his time in charge

McClair
Hughes
Dublin ( he broke his leg and was never the same=
Cole
Solskjer
Sheringham
Yorke
Van Nistlerooy
Forlan ( he never made it here but he was not brick)
Saha
Smith ( was played mostly in M/F another who broke his leg and never got back to his best)
Rooney
Tevez
Berby
Hernandez
Van Persie.

Which one of those would you cast as brick?

Nope, he played nearly 500 games for Utd and when they Bought Cantona he reverted to playing in CM. Before going back in M/F he played as the second striker with Hughes netting 70 goals in 193 Prem games.

disagree

I watched him a lot, he was crap, they improved very quickly and he didn't have enough ability to stay an option

You are having a laugh nearly 500 games for Utd over 11 seasons and he was crap thanks for giving me a laugh.

Fergie thought he was that crap that he made him the Director of Youth Academy for 9 years.

18 goals in his last 5 years at OT, he transcended Fergies United, he was there when they were crap, still there when they were average, and rarely got in the team when they were good

what's his on pitch performance got to do with his coaching ability?

He was in M/F for the last five years but Stop! Hammer time.

yeah, mine is he wasn't particularly good, he was just the best they had at a time of transition

he was out scored by Schemichel one season iirc ;-)

I think he was just another example of an honest pro who Fergie could get a performance out of rather than being something special

also my comparisons are set against the other players on that list, Cantona, van Nistelrooy, Rooney, if you are ranking those 17 players where on the list would you have McClair out of interest?

Nearer the bottom then the top to be honest but I still think he was better then brick. As for transition 11 years is a long transition seeing as they were winning along the way. But we will agree to disagree I guess.

transition when he was a regular starter there, he became "squad player" very quickly

I guess we calibrate differently

It was only his last couple of seasons he became a squad player for most of his time there he played the majority of games.
