Early yellow didn't help things.No-one has mentioned Schweinsteiger. I've never seen him playing so poor.
He used to be the man who played well when it was really needed.

YES
Straight into the group stage; Much better than qualfier round for CL; Safer option.
thats why 3rd was essential this season, and it was in our hands
Exactly. Did anyone expect us to finish 4th at the beginning of the season? Not very many. We've done so, and been shafted by Chelsea making an incredible run to the final and winning the thing. Some people need to put things in perspective.
fudge me. They might as well get on with it and create a European Super League.
The mony ain't guaranteed. You go out in the group stage it ain't that lucrative
I'm quitting spurs. I really really can't be bothered with heartache anymore it's not healthy on my lifestyle. I ruined a wedding for a few people yesterday as I got loads of people to watch the extra time and penalties in our barn. This was my best mates wedding had an argument withy mrs, smashed some glasses kicked some chairs missed out on a hog roast, am now broken down in Cornwall (2nd time in 3 days) and am waiting the RAC. Football did this to me
Fair point, about ?ú15m if you finish 4th in the PL and then lose every single CL group game.
But most PL teams aren't going to do that. Last season the PL teams earned ?ú53.2m, ?ú44.5m, ?ú31.1m and ?ú30m respectively. And that doesn't take into account the extra match day revenue from playing in it, nor the likely increase in merchandise and sponsorship money. And now, if the OP's article is correct, those numbers are going to double as well.
Interesting article from a great website / blog: http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/champions-league-revenue-final.html?utm_source=BP_recent
If the sixth best team in the League can win the damn thing, then the teams finishing in the top four really really shouldn't find it difficult to get to the knockouts.
Unfortunately Chelsea aren't the sixth best team in the league in my opinion. They're one of the top two teams in the league that underperformed so badly that they finished 6th.
It's an absolute gutshot for us. A major reason why we got 4th was because Chelsea underperformed so badly, and it was Chelsea that snatched away Champion's League football from us next season. How often does a team outside the top four win the bloody thing? It's extremely frustrating.
I find it especially hurtfully ironic, because I am always preaching that Chairmans and fans need to demonstrate more patience and yet Roman fires AVB (without really giving him a chance) and their season completely turns around. From looking a shambles to winning two major competitions, and their league form for the last 15 or so matches was superb too.
And when you think of all the players missing from the match yesterday too, it's a great achievement for them and fair play I guess. Yes they had a lot of luck along the way, but every team needs a bit of luck to win a cup competition.
Even with Champions League qualification next year, I have to admit I was looking forward to it probably more than most because I didn't believe we'll qualify for it again in the near future. Now we aren't in it next season, the set back will be even greater. The club we want to drop out of it is Arsenal, because they rely heavily on the revenue for it to sustain their team. City, Chelsea and Utd (to a lesser extent) do not, and I was expecting all of them to be a lot stronger next season than this year where as I don't believe we can realistically get much stronger with our wage cap.
All we can hope is that Arsenal will screw up their qualifying round and that Liverpool don't get someone decent in charge. If that happens maybe we'll have a decent crack at top four next year again. But even if we somehow do keep hold of our best players this Summer, I don't think top four will be on the cards now unless one of the "big guns" truly fudges up again in the Premiership.
we'll be back just about sums it up. it does feel like we've been relegated. relegated out of the top 4 for sure and maybe permanently under the current players and manager
