Cheatski are still scum

I guess they found their way around FFP rules.

Just give it to them as tv rights or prize money.

Absolute gonads.

How can UEFA claim to be worried about financial fair play when they allow the Champions League teams to have this huge an advantage over their lesser counterparts?

I despise Emirates Marketing Project, but being given loads of money by an owner isn't that different to being given loads of TV money for being in the Champions League. Of course those CL teams have got the money because they've been successful, but a) the reward is getting totally disproportionate and out of hand, b) there's been an element of luck in Arsenal and United becoming successful just as the money has exploded, and c) the other 2 teams - City and Chelsea - have only qualified for the CL in the first place through spending beyond their means!

fudge the Champions League, fudge UEFA, and fudge football.

thats why 3rd was essential this season, and it was in our hands

Exactly. Did anyone expect us to finish 4th at the beginning of the season? Not very many. We've done so, and been shafted by Chelsea making an incredible run to the final and winning the thing. Some people need to put things in perspective.

arse sold Nasri and fabregas, signed Mertesacker, Benayoun on loan and Arteta, Chelsea had a new manager who although was highly rated was also considered a risky choice due to his age, lack of experience, and how the senior players would react to being bossed around by someone who, only a few years earlier, was essentially a tea boy.

Chelsea and Arse were by no means shoe ins for the top 4.....we were settled, managed to keep our best players, eventually added a top striker, id say that Tottenham's prospects after the transfer window ended in Aug were extremely positive and a top 4 finish very very likely

The mony ain't guaranteed. You go out in the group stage it ain't that lucrative

Fair point, about ?ú15m if you finish 4th in the PL and then lose every single CL group game.

But most PL teams aren't going to do that. Last season the PL teams earned ?ú53.2m, ?ú44.5m, ?ú31.1m and ?ú30m respectively. And that doesn't take into account the extra match day revenue from playing in it, nor the likely increase in merchandise and sponsorship money. And now, if the OP's article is correct, those numbers are going to double as well.

really ? after we got thumped 1-5 at home to city most people were probably thinking where was our first win coming from especially the incredibly difficult run of fixtures we had until the end of october.

chelsea came 2nd last season and almost pinched the title off united. no one would have thought it remotely possible we could finish above them.

I'm quitting spurs. I really really can't be bothered with heartache anymore it's not healthy on my lifestyle. I ruined a wedding for a few people yesterday as I got loads of people to watch the extra time and penalties in our barn. This was my best mates wedding had an argument withy mrs, smashed some glasses kicked some chairs missed out on a hog roast, am now broken down in Cornwall (2nd time in 3 days) and am waiting the RAC. Football did this to me

Is that a sexual thing?

If the sixth best team in the League can win the damn thing, then the teams finishing in the top four really really shouldn't find it difficult to get to the knockouts.

Unfortunately Chelsea aren't the sixth best team in the league in my opinion. They're one of the top two teams in the league that underperformed so badly that they finished 6th.

It's an absolute gutshot for us. A major reason why we got 4th was because Chelsea underperformed so badly, and it was Chelsea that snatched away Champion's League football from us next season. How often does a team outside the top four win the bloody thing? It's extremely frustrating.

I find it especially hurtfully ironic, because I am always preaching that Chairmans and fans need to demonstrate more patience and yet Roman fires AVB (without really giving him a chance) and their season completely turns around. From looking a shambles to winning two major competitions, and their league form for the last 15 or so matches was superb too.

And when you think of all the players missing from the match yesterday too, it's a great achievement for them and fair play I guess. Yes they had a lot of luck along the way, but every team needs a bit of luck to win a cup competition.

Even with Champions League qualification next year, I have to admit I was looking forward to it probably more than most because I didn't believe we'll qualify for it again in the near future. Now we aren't in it next season, the set back will be even greater. The club we want to drop out of it is Arsenal, because they rely heavily on the revenue for it to sustain their team. City, Chelsea and Utd (to a lesser extent) do not, and I was expecting all of them to be a lot stronger next season than this year where as I don't believe we can realistically get much stronger with our wage cap.

All we can hope is that Arsenal will screw up their qualifying round and that Liverpool don't get someone decent in charge. If that happens maybe we'll have a decent crack at top four next year again. But even if we somehow do keep hold of our best players this Summer, I don't think top four will be on the cards now unless one of the "big guns" truly fudges up again in the Premiership.

One thing i was considering....

In the last few years i've really not liked what us as fans have become. in short we have become a bit arrogant, needy and spoilt....in a general sense so to speak. we raised the bar for ourselves and now we expect every game to go our way in the same manner as it did when we were flying and we wont accept anything less now ...even though how we performed recntly are the true outliers in this whole thing

so if the worst case scenario were to happen. i.e we lose our best players and our primary targets reject us....then us as fans will have no hope but to come back to earth and see football for what it really is. and maybe we can appreciate a win more..and appreciate a decent league finish

....nah.....not working ....i'm still tinkled at this whole thing

Just out of interest Moonlit, would you mind comparing United's first XI to Chelsea's, player for player? I'd be interested to see who you rate over who and why you think Chelsea are better.

we'll be back just about sums it up. it does feel like we've been relegated. relegated out of the top 4 for sure and maybe permanently under the current players and manager

But in the movie john hannah meets paltrow in the lift at the end, so you know he is going to get to fudge her come what may. It may take time but eventually we will win everything and chelsea will be on there way to a game in some brick hole country(england haha) and the will be a flash flood and thousands of there fans all all their players will die. All will be good.
