Cheatski are still scum

I thought they were being run as a business so how the hell in current times are they finding all this money to spend, Roman must be dipping into his dirty pocket again

From the Athletic:

Chelsea’s latest financial results, announced on their website in the final hours before 2019 ticked into 2020, went beyond merely confirming a lean year at Stamford Bridge. They underlined that the club are not sustainable at the elite level without the benefits of regular Champions League participation.

There was heavy spending in 2018-19 to acquire club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, Jorginho and Christian Pulisic, but the accounts reveal that Roman Abramovich poured in a staggering £247 million of his personal wealth to enable them to do so, via his holding company Fordstam Ltd.

There is nothing in the numbers to hint that Chelsea won a major European trophy in 2018-19 — overall broadcast revenue actually fell from £204.1 million in 2018 to £200.2 million in 2019, while match-day income dropped from £73.9 million in 2018 to £66.6 million the following year, despite Stamford Bridge hosting two more games across all competitions.

In financial terms, the Europa League triumph with Maurizio Sarri was significantly less valuable to Chelsea than elimination from the Champions League round of 16 under Antonio Conte. That unforgiving reality underlines why, even in what is widely regarded as a transition season, the pressure on Frank Lampard to deliver a top-four finish in the Premier League is considerable.

“The stakes are high,” Wilson adds. “You get into a very difficult space if you have a couple of seasons out of the Champions League, because your closest rivals are the ones taking the spots. You have around a £60 million drop in your revenue while they get a £60 million boost to theirs, so the net effect is around £120 million.”

I think after the City ffp result, there is little incentive for Chelsea to be conservative, their enforced austerity and Hazard sale, plus getting back into CL seems to have stemmed any potential slide, as per usual. It’s really worth noting the angle of qualifying for CL as a swing, so when a rival misses out it’s actually worth > 120m.
I’d really hoped Abrahomvic would have got bored by now and want that 1.1b interest free ‘loan’ back...

Chelski would be just a mid table club ( at best) if it was not for being finacially doped by Roman. I would hope our club would never be seen as doing the same.

PR for Mother Russia and establishing him as a "legitimate businessman", Vanity project, plus a way to launder some of that questionable money (look up what losses Cartels take to "clean" money)

The good news is a decade plus of this hasn't made them elite from a fanbase/income perspective, when/if that day come that RA fudges off, they will go back to mediocrity ..

Yeah you’re probably right, him at least not gifting them a stadium on top is something at least. If he wiped the debt and sold them at a nominal price that might attract another sugar daddy, what we really need is a prolonged period out of CL as I think they are pretty much self sufficient with that cash, however they have evolved to be the team best equipped to cope with change as they turn over managers so regularly.

Cheat$ki spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave. Hopefully Fat Frank won't be able to manage the squad, because they are certainly upgrading with their filthy, dirty Russian blood money.

He bought the club to try to put him and his money beyond Putin's reach. He also wanted a British passport. Anglo/Russian relations have put paid to that for now and he now has an Israeli passport.

I agree but I doubt most fans really care, especially with all the trophies they have won
