Champions League 2014/15

as bad as Arsanal were, and at times they were shocking, Monaco were superb. They executed their game-plan brilliantly. So strong, tactically smart, and very good to watch.

I call it economical football . Everyone is well drilled , doing the right thing with a minimum of fuss . It's players passing the ball accurately with one touch when they can , two touches when they can't pass with one and so on. Make the ball do the work .

Despite looking poor for large parts of the match , Giroud really should have scored a goal and Wellbeck firing the ball at, Walcott on the floor, yards from the goal was a funny moment. Monaco's were my favorite performance by a team outside of Spurs this season and not just because of who they beat.

All Schalke at the moment. And they've just gone one nil up, to make the tie interesting.

Never heard of this Max Meyer kid before. Looks a real talent.

And Madrid have just scored to make it 1-1.....oh well

Shame, would've loved a 5-3 win for the visitors there. Still not very convincing from Real, to say the least. Bet they'll blame Bale.

What a game, can Schalke nick it now??

My heart was racing, brilliant match. Shame Schalke couldn't quite do it, Goretzka, Meyer and Sane all have a combined age of 59 or something like that, and they bossed Madrid. Deserved the win.

It was quite obvious from the refereeing decisions towards the end of the game that Real Madrid was the team meant to go through.

incredible what's happened to casillas, I can't think of a drop in form to match it, he was the best in the world for quite some time, now he's a liability

Huntelaar showing he still has something to offer...wouldnt be a bad free transfer in the summer

Didn't watch the game yesterday, but it's quite astonishing how Real Madrid have gone from looking like an unstoppable freight train ready to dominate La Liga and the CL to a struggling team losing away to Bilbao and at home to Schalke...

Wonder if they'll be able to turn it around quickly enough to rescue their title challenge in the league and to get ready for the next round in the CL. Always looks a bit of a fractured squad even at the best of times, not always convinced that they react well to adversity. But Ancelotti is a very good manager and should be able to turn it around.

yeah, incredible turn around, Alsono and Di Maria have been missed, as has Modric with his injury, I expect they will pick up now he is back (Kroos looks knackered), a lot of the problems last night were caused by Casillas having an absolute shocker, impossible for a defence to have a confidence in him currently

Ancelotti is one of the greats IMO but according to Sid Lowe the Madrid board seem to have lost confidence in him and things are winding down

True. Modric was fantastic for them last season and this whenever I did watch. Has the mobility that Kroos lacks too. Good point about Alonso, although Kroos should be able to fill that gap reasonably well. Di Maria is another one, rather different role to what James has been playing.

Solid question from marky... Not sure if there is an obvious candidate to take over if they do get rid of Ancelotti?

yeah no one leaps out, they burn through them so quickly they have exhausted the glactico options, maybe that guy from across town, although i'd be very surprised if he would take it

personally I think CA has them the most cohesive unit they have been in a long time, despite the recent poor form

Agreed. Would have thought that this combined with the long awaited CL title would have kept him safe for a while. But I suppose there is no "for a while" at Real and that almost whatever is achieved it's always little less than what is considered the least one should achieve with them.
