Carlyle takeover, was Cain Hoy takeover

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Apart from Chelsea (needed raise profile massively in the west to escape the fate of his mate and mentor) and City (um not 100% sure but raising the profile in the west able to assert influence with a foothold in the country.... Or just today's version of champion race horse) what other rich owners have come in to the prem recently and done well for the clubs they brought? Who would be interested that has the money and motivation of Chelsea's or city's owners? We are more likely to get a galzier type owner... But without man u's financial power or recent success that will be a disaster for us.

That last bit is my big concern. A leveraged buyout almost took out Liverpool, who were saved by a friendly judge who took pleasure in skewering the Texans.

I'm not enthusiastic about a sugar-daddy, but our way to regular CL football and further success has been blocked by two of them. If we were ensured they were reliable and in it for the long haul, I wouldn't mind. But ... actually quite a few buts about a potential takeover by an unknown.

But #1. We could get a Glazer/Hicks-Gillett type and the finanicial risks that entails.

But #2. We could get a Lerner/Rex Sox type. This is largely neutral but won't change where we are.

But #3. We could get a fraud like the two Sheikhs at Portsmouth.

But #4. We could get someone with a cunning plan ... like Ridsdale and Ransom at Leeds or, for that matter, Irving Scholar with us. We have just recovered and I can't remember where Leeds are.

It's also worth noting that both City and Chelsea were taken over when in a distressed state. Chelsea were at the Bates Motel and close to bankruptcy. Likewise, City had an owner who had become an international fugitive with frozen assets.

So it seems like there are two main routes. One get taken over by a chancer, get into trouble and hope the White Knight is a genuine Sheikh or football supporting oligarch, while praying it is not another fraud. Two get taken over by a pragmatic American group and stay pretty much as we are. On balance I'd prefer to stay as we are.

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Well, interesting, facts

- Club says they are not "selling"
- Cain Hoy says they are in conversation with club to "buy"
- club confirms they have talked to Cain Hoy, but more along lines of funding options fro stadium

See club statement -> As stated in yesterday's announcement regarding the new stadium project, THFC has been in discussions with multiple providers of finance so that the optimum financing package for the project can be achieved and, in the course of those considerations, has met representatives of Cain Hoy. However, there are no ongoing discussions with Cain Hoy.

To me, that reads, perhaps Lewis/Levy are looking to sell a partial share/stake in club to finance stadium.

That's very much how I see it happening

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

I am absolutely petrified of the uncertainty of a new owner. We are stable with ENIC and long may it continue. You are mad if you want to see dynamic changes at a club as stable as ours. Blinking mad.

i agree - from a fans perspective we have nothing really to go on to judge perspective new owners. so in absence of that information i look towards recent takeovers in England and seeing if there's a noticeable trend - and i think there seems to be more clubs with new owners failing than there are ones who succeed

selling off shares and using the money to pay for a stadium would effectively mean they'd be paying for it out of their own pocket, wouldn't it?

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

ENIC have given us organic growth to a top 6 position over a period of 15 years after the Alan Sugar debacle. All the other bigger clubs have either grown organically over a longer period than us or have had sugar daddys who have spent their own money.

For immediate success you would need someone who wants to spend their own money. But with FFP I feel that ship has sailed. In the long run if we continue on our current trend we can compete, especially with the increasing efforts in the US and the far east.

I think that it is more likely that they would issue more shares and sold those to the investors. It would dilute their holding but they would retain their assets.

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

well **** you back ;)

bought success is better than no success

Agreed

The game is about glory, winning trophies, being in the champions league, competing for the title are all glorious occasions. The only way to get there is buying it, I couldn't give a **** about right and wrong. It's 2014 ffs, sure we would all like to win the league and consistently qualify for cl with the way we are run now but it isn't happening.

Also the value of the shares now vs. acquisition. Like the good businessmen that they are, the club are evaluating options.

To me, partial or full financing via selling a stake (as long as Levy/Lewis retain majority and Levy remains Chairman) is a very good option.

Could give us a new Stadium, with none of the debt servicing and allow us to compete more almost immediately upon completion.

An American investor makes sense as we are obviously looking to continue marketing there.

Not if they issue more shares although it would mean they'd own less of the club. The value of the investment wouldn't change unless the value of the individual shares does

Just want to throw it out there that we hired Rothschild to help us find funding, and the Rothschild family have age old marriage connections to the Guggenheim family, who are connected to Cain Hoy (the Guggenheim's first company was called Cain Hoy). Coincidence? I'm not so sure.

I think we've been looking for an investor particularly in the US market for ages. Under Armour, Bale on Times Square, US players in Dempsey and Yedlin, Freidel given an ambassadorial role. Levy and Lewis have strong links to the US don't forget.

They're your typical transatlantic businessmen.

I would applaud them if this was the case... More likely they get to buy back the shares at a qualifying price.. Basically bonds.

Wow. That's pretty much the exact opposite of how I view the world (and was raised to view it). Always amazes me how sport can unite the most radically different of people. :)

how i view the world has very little in common with how i view the PL

cheers guys, stocks and shares isn't really my specialist subject - the above makes sense

we're definitely gearing ourselves up for the American market, ENIC or no ENIC

Re: Back Page tomorrow Mirror - Lewis to sell 1 Billion Tottenham

Maybe Levy will surprise us all and sell 51% to the fans to raise money for the stadium.

35.5% from Lewis
15.5% from Levy.

edit.. Saying that they would only need sell 40 odd percent as there is currently 10% that isn't owned by Enic

How would this work? Lewis and Levy don't have a personal holding in the club, all of their holding is owned by ENIC and if ENIC sold their shares the proceeds would go to ENIC not the club.

Not to mention the close relationships with AEG and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

As I said they would surprise us by handing (selling) 51% to the fans and using the money to pay for the stadium. Basically turning us to a German model of ownership.

something a fan would do more than a businessman
