Cann we make the top 4 or 5?

Super early days of course, everyone has played 5 matches.
Narrative is that Spurs have thrown shedloads of points away with toothless displays.
Reality is we are 3 behind CHE and NEW and 5 behind AST

Currently MCN LIV ARS AST are all looking good, fair play to them.

CHE are such a basketcase you never know what is coming, from sublime to ridiculous, one minute I'm laughing at them, the next minute they are cutting teams apart.
NEW have a fearsome forward 3 of Gordon Isak Barnes with solid midfielders Guimaeres JoeLinton Tonali and yet I'm told they are not playing well and will start to sink??

Then we have BRI NOT FUL who are not really our rivals.... and we are level with MNU who blow hot and very, very cold.

13 MNC
12 LIV AST
11 ARS
10 CHE NEW
9 BRI NOT
8 FUL
7 TOT MNU
6 BRE
5 BOU
4 WHU
3 LEI CRY IPS
2
1 SOU EVE WOL

I think the main players we have are good enough for 4-5th, but unless we move away from "Angeball" and commit to PL as the absolute priority with cup matches being a second string team then 6-8 is probably more likely, assuming we don't have the usual injury crises with star players getting bans all over the place.

Answer is down to two things

- How are we playing
- What our rivals do

Truth is we are playing for two spots (4th/5th)

- Fair assumption is City, Scum, Pool will land in top 4
- Chelsea & United are both fudging basket cases/circuses, I won't even try to predict
- Don't see Villa/Saudi Sportswashing Machine doing 4th again this season, they will be there for the 5th/6th but don't see enough consistency or quality there

As @JerusalemMan pointed out, the data behind the games (if not results) says we are playing well

As with most, we need some luck, luck with injuries and hopefully one the other teams don't go on some crazy good run for too long in season.

Any of the forwards bar Solanke. Replace Richy at the very least.

I do like your thought process. With so many youngsters though, I do wonder whether we have to let Scarlett, Veliz and Lankshear succeed or fail before we spend big with some Richi money. The moment another senior number 9 comes in, we know their path is blocked.

One big signing in January is always good for a second half season push though.

I wouldn’t be against giving one of the youngsters a go if we sold Richy. But a forward who can also play number 9 would be really good, id prefer a winger personally.

Can’t see it myself. Few injury’s in key areas and we look a bit short. Imagine Vicario injury. Fraser Forster is a worrying prospect.

We looked better going forward Saturday.
Brentford were missing a few and did create chances. We were decent compared to say Coventry game but there was still some really flakey defending. Especially 5/10 mins up to HT.

I just can’t see us keeping ball out of our own net enough to finish top 4.

Yeah, that's like saying we have our Firmnho but we haven't yet found our Salah and Mane. I tend to agree. We had it with Sonny but he is now on the downward spiral like S&M. If we are going play this system then we need Johnson, Yang Min-hyeok, Moore, Odobert etc to emerge as major forces in those wide areas. No different to how Saka has emerged down the road.

We will need our goal distribution across the front 3 to be our strength very soon in this system.
