Brennan Johnson

Have you seen it back
He makes the tackle and the guys then run across so it’s almost the other way around
Not seen a ‘real time ‘replay, only the slo-mo one which I know can make things look worse.
Live I didn’t think it was that bad. Slo-mo it looked more debatable.
But he didn’t need to be doing it in the first place.

Let’s see what you think in real time
I was deffo red in the ground
But it’s done now unless we appeal

Good goal, good run. He's very good when released into space, seen too little of that this season. Couple of other good involvements too, particularly like when he takes on his man. But some of good weaknesses on show too.

Good tactical decision to get himself sent off so we could change the game state to a counter attacking one for us, really opened the game up.

It’s a red card - he connected with the guys leg not his boot and he was not in control being on his ass at the time.
In Johnson's defence, he tackled with his boot pointed downwards, but it bounced off the turf and the studs went up. That bounce looks to have taken the sting out of the tackle though -- it certainly wasn't a leg-breaker, although I can see how it would look as such in real time. And of course it'd look worse in slo-mo.

This.

He almost fudged it up with a poor first touch, but these runs in behind are what we need to see more of .
Just saw the goal again, poor first touch? Seriously!? Where or what exactly did you want him to do with that other than what he did?

Must have mixed it up with another incident. I distinctly remember a ball played to him that he misses when trying to control it, but managed to catch up with it. My research tells me he played a key pass to Sarr a few minutes later and we got a corner.

I am not doubting his attitude or many other positive attributes but want to mention Johnsons 1v1 ability.

It still amazes me that for someone who is an attacking player and plays primarily on the wing.. He doesn't have a single trick or go to skill in 1v1 situations!

I mean, There's a LOT of wingers that have been given plenty of stick over the years because they relied on only ONE favoured (and predictable) skill but Brennan doesn't have anything. There was a moment today when someone gave him the ball on the right and you could see him freeze up, He just put it on his right foot and tried to cross it knowing that he didnt have space and crossed his fingers that he could hopefully just win a corner.

I know he has other good attributes but in 1v1s he might be the worst I ever seen.. Even Beckham went past a defender on very rare occasions!

Just to add, He is obviously aware of it because he said in the summer it was a weakness that he had been working on... I just find it odd, I mean he must have tried the odd stepover during the thousand odd training sessions he has had throughout his life. Spence is a defender with no real trickery and he was able to pull off a step over while in our penalty area today.

Sorry. Just blows my mind.

What frustrates me is that he seldom tries any trickery, or even something basic like knocking the ball past his man and running onto it. He’s the equivalent of a forward who hides, never wants to get into the box, and doesn’t get on the end of chances.

I have no concerns about his finishing — that’s his calling card — but when that dries up, he has nothing to fall back on.

This is the main one for me, he has a lot of pace but has zero confidence in using it to beat the full back.
Probably our best finisher now Sonny has gone so he is useful, think he could work well alongside another forward if we ever play 2 up top.
