Bentley

Re: Bentley gone

May be a good move for him, no "reputation" to live up to, no price tag to justify.

From what I've seen the Russian league seems to be a slightly slower pace, given a little extra time/space to deliver he can be dangerous. Hopefully his new team has a forward that actually gets into the box.

Re: Bentley gone

It can't be a bad move. If he wants to get his football career on track he needs to make a change. This shows an intent to want to get back playing.

Re: Bentley gone

Do you know him at all? You know some of his mates dont you?

I know him yes and his mates are my mates. Worked with his brother in law Danny and know mams in a round about way through mates. Used to play snooker with him of a Monday night in a goffs oak working mans club. He's a nice fella. Loves JD and orange too!!

Re: Bentley gone

Apart from December (2), January (-1) and February (0), the average annual temperatures are quite benign in Rostov, but he will not be prancing around with his shorts up his a**e over there, thats for sure!?

His tan might be in danger.

Do you remember with Rebrov it turned out that Hoddle/The Board found out that if he wasn't played then the ammount of the full transfer fee payments to Dymano Kiev was reduced considerablly?

Could it be a similar thing with Bentley??

There's about £2m in "add-ons" from Bentley's transfer from Blackburn which will probably never need to be paid.

But I sincerely doubt that this is a factor in Spurs not playing him.

the mystery deepens:

But the 29-year-old is also frustrated with the perception of him having a bad-boy image.

“I really regret leaving Blackburn the way I did," he added.

"Coming out publicly saying I wanted to leave was a mistake, but so much has been said about me which is wrong.

“It got put about that I’m a party boy. I’ve got a restaurant business in Spain - it’s an investment with my agent. Harry Redknapp said I should concentrate on playing football rather than running that.

"The truth is, I never even go there."

So not only is he a footaller that never players football, he's a restauranteur who never goes to his restaurant. He might as well claim to be an astronaut, that never goes into space.

To be honest though, kudos to him for having the cojones to go out on a loan like this. I think it took some serious looking in the mirror first, but if he could get his career on track again then good for him.

I can't believe he's 28 years old already really feel bad for how his career has nosedived so drastically because by all accounts he seems like a good guy. I really admire him for going out on loan to Rostov at his age that had to take some serious ego check. I doubt he will ever really factor for spurs again but we will always have "bentley from the halfway line!"

Thank F#@k he's gone. Spent 3 or more seasons trying to get ride of him. That is the one thing we need to improve on is if a player aint right, get rid and get rid quick. Don't allow them to sit at home for years... depressing. Bentley, Bassong, Krunchie, Charlie... and we still have Gomez and the Cuds to shift...I reckon spurs win the award for most wasted players in a squad.

Rubbish. Doesn't take into account loan fees or wages saved whilst on loan at West Ham, Birmingham and Rostov and the fact the 15m fee was over a 6 year contract so essentially 2.5m a year. On the books hs current value is 5m so if we get someone to pay 3.5 to 4m for him in January we haven't done too badly.

If he does well in the Russian league then it's possible that one of their bigger (spending) clubs may come in for him. Could earn both him and the club a few quid.

David Bentley is joining Blackburn on loan. Good move for all concerned. Still a quality player. More on @MirrorFootball soon

David Bentley has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

The midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at Russian side FC Rostov.

Does he still have a year on his contract? Hope he gets some game time and does well there
