Bentley

Re: Bentley gone

Happy for him, hope it can be a fresh start to his career.
A new league where he doesn't come with any baggage.
Only bad thing with this loan deal is how late it came together,
we could have given that last spot in the 25 man squad to Jonathan Obika.

Is he the first englishman in russian football?

Yes, David Bentley becomes the first Englishman to play in the Russian League.

But not the first Briton - that honour goes to Scotland's Garry O'Connor (FC Lokomotiv Moscow, 2006–2007 & Tom Tomsk 2012–).

Ireland's Aiden McGeady (FC Spartak Moscow, 2010–2012) also plays there.

Nothing to do with alcoholism then? Still think he's the best player I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt.

I was thinking about it more in the way of his serious injuries that occurred afterwards. If those never happened he would have definitely gone on to be the best there could have ever been.

Re: Bentley gone

Good luck, David - hope you manage to re-spark your career

Likewise - if he gets it together we could have a "new" player on our hands. If not for us, at least one we could sell for decent money.

BTW, which manager actually bought him for us?

Re: Bentley gone

To me he's another Pienaar, a player that looked great before we signed him but there were always question marks over whether he was needed.

Bentley was always going to find it tough competing with Lennon for a spot in a side that was playing quick, free flowing, football. Bentley did have his moments of brilliance for us; his goal v Arsenal and his free kick against Wigan which went in courtesy of Wigan's goalkeeper, was it Al Habsi?

His crazy personality displayed too when he soaked Harry Redknapp, that might have been a mistake given that Redknapp doesn't entertain fools.

Good luck to him in Russia, I'm confident that if he applies himself that he will be a success.

Re: Bentley gone

Interesting facts

1. Pletikosa plays in Rostov (best player of the team in 2011/2012)
2. Pav advised Rostov to get Bently. Thank you, man))

Really? That's interesting. The coach bozovic was at dynamo moscow last year.

Fc Rostov were once called Traktor Fc.

Did he play for us again after that? I always thought that was why he never got a look in again.

Re: Bentley gone

I can't believe he's only 27? He seems to have been around forever. We'll always have THAT goals though. And who knows, a winter in Russia may increase his work ethic?
I'll always remember him for his tribute to Glory Glory. It gave him legendary status for a while, until his football did the talking (or rather didn't)

Obika isn't an U21 player anymore, born in 1990 he counts as a senior player and need to be registered in the 25 man squad to play PL football.
Same age group as Rose and Walker.

Looking at Pav and Arseshaving I dont think it will.

Re: Bentley gone

To the people who fume about Bentley and Jenas still being here, this is the reality of it: nobody but a struggling Russian club wants them. I see Rostov had five different coaches last season too! Fair play to Bentley for going, he would've been the last player I would've expected to pack up and head out to a Russian winter for a few months.

Does mams still post here by the way?

Re: Bentley gone

Erm hullo!

What can I say.... ignore the comments here... bentley looks good on youtube!

Does your team by any chance play its matches in penthouse flats? And do your opponents use skips for bins?

If so, you've got a cracking player on your hands.

Apart from December (2), January (-1) and February (0), the average annual temperatures are quite benign in Rostov, but he will not be prancing around with his shorts up his a**e over there, thats for sure!?
