Oh come on, transfers can be done in 1, 5, 20, 45 days.......they can be concluded quickly or can take time. How is it that Levy manages to sign so many players on transfer deadline day? In a matter of hours clubs are able to agree a fee, player signs contract, medical is done.

There is no rule, no set time for any transfer. Its all dependant on the clubs and the player wanting to get a deal done as soon as possible. It can be done.

Sellers' market for 98% of the window, buyers' market in the last 2%.

Then all teams would wait till the last day to buy players but they don't do they

Every transfer is different.

I thought about 60-70% of transfers do happen in the last week of a window?

It's also a myth that we always sign players on the last day. vdV, Parker, Dempsey and Lloris are the only ones I can think of in the past 10 or so windows. The last 3 windows we've not done anything in the last couple of days at all

No doubt that transfers can be concluded quickly in the dying hours of the transfer window.

But we're not at that point or even close. So there's no pressure on any parties to take the offer on the table. Swansea will want to hold out for better offers. Spurs will want to pay less. And Davies (and his agent) will almost certainly be whoring around and waiting for the intervention of other interested clubs if it seems likely that they will pay more and offer the opportunity to play in the CL.

That's not true of all transfers at this time of year, of course, but it could well be true of this one. As I said, you have no idea why this transfer hasn't yet been concluded so it makes no sense to complain that it's because Spurs have been faffing.

Didn't we sign Eriksen, Chiriches and Lamela only 2 days before last summers window shut?

I thought it was about a week before (and they were signed on successive rather than the same day IIRC), because the last couple of days all the attention was on Coentrao? You may be right - I tend to remember the colour of things rather than the details.

One (realistic?) player i'd have really loved us to sign - think he's superb

Rumoured that Ben Davies is going to choose Tottenham over Liverpool after speaking to his friend Gareth Bale about the club. #THFC

As you say if true, its nice he still thinks of us as a decent club who he would recommend to others

We were nothing but great for him.
Gave him a platform to grow and develop. Financially rewarded him well with good contracts. Showed patience with him in the early difficult days. And ultimately let him go on to a bigger club.
He's a poster boy for ambitious young players to come to us.
And hopefully our stature can grow enough in the next couple of years, with the help of two or three of these ambitious young players, to retain them for longer as we achieve more.

Liverpool fans don't even want Davies, they want Sevilla's Moreno

Meanwhile the Swansea fans re questioning why we want him, when he wouldn't get in the team ahead of Danny Rose.

Liverpool Echo tonight reporting that Davies is close to signing for Spurs with Liverpool unable to agree a fee with Swansea
Rodgers’ search for a new left-back goes on though with transfer target Ben Davies close to agreeing a deal with Tottenham.

Liverpool’s initial bid of around £8million was rejected earlier this week and they have been unable to agree a fee with Swansea for the Wales international.

The Reds turned to Davies after being frustrated in their attempts to land Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno. The ECHO understands Liverpool will only go back in for Moreno if the La Liga outfit lower their £20million demands.

Still wondering if they will make a last-minute mindblowing offer though
