Ballon d'Or

As good a year as Modric has had, Bale has had a couple of better ones and still not overhauled the big three.

Would be nice to a see a change.

I've seen a load of people on BBC giving out that Modric shouldn't have won last year. Do people really not realise what a fudging tremendous player Modric is. Ok, he doesn't score 50 goals a season but he was immense in the World Cup and was magnificent at his best.
 
You do have to wonder when nearly every winner is one of the top goalscorers and when it isn't there are complaints. There should be other metrics for football greatness.

VVD should have won it. It can't be a coincidence that Liverpool have been in incredible form since he joined, when before their defence was crap. Anyway, the moaning from Liverpool fans will be muted due to him not being a top goalscorer. If Mane or Salah had been second ...

I think it would have justified for vVD to have won it. Messi of course is an all time great but last year was top scorer for the best team in an easy league, VVD has massively improved Liverpool and whatever I think of their fans, to be a massive part of getting within a point of doped City and win the CL is a bigger achievement than winning La Liga imo.

If the mark for winning the Ballon d'Or is being good enough to improve on Liverpool's pre-VVD defence, then I graciously accept the award and would like to thank nobody as I did it all myself.

‘Not being Lovren’ would improve their defence of course, but VVD has been key for them as I don’t think they have been as good going forward, hence all the tighter games rather than them blowing teams away.
