It's a podcast about parents all around the world reporting what they think is telepathy in their autistic kids. This podcast with the help of a former neuroscientist from the highly regarded Johns Hopkins University investigate and prove the veracity of the claims.

I've been listening to it for the past few days - it's utterly incredible. I started crying after episode 3 and just stared into my dark room with a tingling sense of pure awe.

There's definitely never ever been any evidence of telepathy in scientific trials.

Its obvious though that some people read non-verbal signals 1000 times better than others and can make it appear so to the level it feels uncanny.
 
"The evidence is anecdotal" - oh no! It cant possibly be true! Consciousness is anecdotal. We don't know how it works, yet we base all our knowledge, all of it, on this subjective experience.

I fully expected this response, of course. Just wanted to share with people that might find it interesting, despite it being "only" (it isn't) anecdotal.

There's been countless clinical trials, with all kind of gifted individuals. But as soon as you remove the visual cues and shared past experiences, all participants fall back to no statistical significance.

The oldest test is put two 'telepathic' individuals in different rooms. Show them a series of apple or banana cards and get one to communicate what they are seeing to the other. Every pair ever tested has always ended up at 50% accuracy.

High performing emotional intelligence can be really spooky for the masses on lower wavelengths, but its all done through cues.
 
So I had a quick listen to the first episode. These are autistic kids who don't speak. They did things like take a random number generator between 100 and 999 and shared the number with the mum. Then the child identifies the same number. The trials were setup in a way where the scientists bought all the kits that would be used in the trial and the kids and parents were brought to a neutral location. The implication is that the telepathic connection is only in the same gene pool e.g. twins.

Problem is, you don't know whether these things are staged and just money making schemes.

What I would say is that I have autistic nieces and their empathy is off the scale. As we don't really understand fully how the brain works, is there a connection between the 2. We assume empathy is based on people tuning into other people's body language and interpreting the things they say. Perhaps empathy runs deeper than that and extends to one human being in tune with another persons alpha, beta, theta, delta, and gamma brain waves. Perhaps in the most exaggerated state this empathy extends to what we call telepathy.

If it was genuine, there would be a properly scrutinised scientific paper and it would be headline news all around the world. Not one of these has ever stood up to rigorous controlled testing.

Hey man. Sorry dude. I didn't mean to attack you if it felt that way. And all data is anecdotal in reality. It is always the insight which requires nuance and context.

My work is in analysing precisely this kind of info so I take a keen interest but I will admit I am not open minded with stuff like this.

Yep, I'll be waiting for it to become worldwide news before I give it another thought.

I'd be more interested in how BCI technology might impact us in our lifetimes in things like the smart home. Be nice to turn my alarm off in the morning with just a fudge off thought :cool:

Hey, none taken! I don't take it personal at all. I believe a lot of weird things that I know people think is hogwash! But, you say you analyse "this kind of info" in your job, but you're not open minded about it? Aren't you then biased against it, and should you be? Wouldn't that put you at risk of contaminating or skewing your analysis? I'm just speaking as someone curious here, not try to brick on your integrity, obviously, just wondering. Sounds like a very interesting job though! What types of cases are you typically studying?

That's more or less my position, I would love to be believe certain stuff but my sceptical side says show me.
That being said the CIA allegedly did a lot of work into this stuff and if they found any of it to be true I honestly believe nobody would ever hear a word of it, it would also never be used for good i.e. stopping 9/11 etc for fear of revealing it's existence.

I genuinely am curious about stuff like this, unfortunately there's so many scamming asshats, attention seekers and gullible bereaved etc it'll be hard to take anything seriously. It's also a podcast and I don't like podcasts :p
 
When listening to it, I don't get the sense that the, I don't know, 40-50 people involved from all corners of the world, are trying to fool me to make money from a free podcast, but who knows, they may have been plotting it for quite some time, and yeah, are probably getting filthy rich between them from all the listeners they get on Spotify! All these poor autistic parents just finally cruising around in their Ferraris right now. Such a great scheme.

They would obviously have to get these kids to perform under clinical trials at some point for it to gain any real traction, but just try coming in as blank as possible listening to this, you'd have to be pretty hard-ass cynic to believe the people in this are lying or in some sort of conspiracy to fool you. Anyways, there's a movie coming out about it eventually, I think, I reckon that would be even more interesting.

Could very well be! I like that. There are some more insights into just this in further episodes, but I get you don't want to spend your time hearing it.

A good stance to have is to believe that a stranger with "information" is out to con you. It may be free on Spotify but they will get cash for appearances on the likes of JRE/radio/TV/Amazon prime/speaking events etc, not to mention YouTube.
It may not be the worlds biggest grift, but it only needs to keep them from doing a hard days work, you only need to have a look at the likes of secureteam10 and the cash/notoriety they were getting.

I would like to point out that I am one of those poor autistic parents.

Let me give you a greater context as well.

I'm actually extremely fascinated by ASD because of my nieces. Like most people, I hate the D in it. I prefer C condition, but often deliberately use T for talent. As an example, I have one niece that lip reads. Doesn't know how she does it and we don't know whether it is a natural or nurtured state in her lifetime. She also has a condition called selective mutism where sometimes she wants to talk but physically is unable. She shuts down.

I have a lot of respect for people like yourself who have gone through a difficult diagnosis journey as you shared with us the other day. Not ASD in your case obviously. In my case, I've observed 3 kids in my family (nieces) who are taking their own journey. I see a society who isn't ready to adjust to what their condition brings. Go and talk to any parent who has tried to get their child an EHCP (educational health care plan) due to their child's autism and you see a whole world of pain. You see blockers everywhere in our society trying to treat these kids as "normal", not that there is such a thing.

The leading scientists in the world are learning about autism, but have a long way to go. My recommendation would be to spend the money, time and energy there rather than go after these sensationalist stories like telepathy. Also, to put autistic children through a clinical trial process would be cruel in my opinion. That is, especially for those who have PDA (pathological demand avoidance) layered into their autistic condition. That is a factor as well.

So you can imagine what I'd like to do to these people if this is a scam and they are riding the autism bandwagon. I really hope they aren't.
