Archie Gray

I was always surprised how much time Wanyama spent ahead of Dembele. We would call Vic the 6 and Mousa the 8, but it rarely became that. They just changed places in a double pivot. So did Winksy as well when he was deputising. It was only really Dier that played the 6 in a more orthodox way.

I'd love to see some of that intelligent double pivot midfield again.
Sadly will never see a player like the Moose ever again. Built like a truck moved like a gazelle

Much like the Pirlo x Gattuso partnership at Milan. Deep lying playermaker with an layer of protection in front, not that Dembele needed it.

Still waiting for them to announce Dembele for this Legends game...him v Pirlo worth the admission fee all day

He did say once (back when he was signed) that he likes being a No.8. We are so desperate for a DM right now though so that's what people want him to become. I suppose he's still young enough and talented enough to learn any role. Will be interesting to see. For all we know the next coach brings in a pure DM and Gray moves forward or ends up on loan somewhere.
1, I agree its our biggest weakness and has been all season.

2, I do hope so.

Thought grey has played CB for too long and now way off his development in his preferred position compared to bergvall. But I think grey will overcome it in a few games and with the right coach and system. Him making up for lapses in defence shows he is a smart selfless player
You could at least try to get his name right in his own thread, mottlegore

Biggest weakness has been Ange not recognising this.

Oh he's recognised it tenfold, he just has not been able to address it. Bissouma was given every chance to regain the manager's trust after last season and could not, Bentancur has been given the manager's trust and has not been able to repay it.

Nope, it’s plainly Ange’s system. We could have prime Kante and still have the same issues we do now. It’s how he wants them to play. Both Bissouma and definitely Bentancur are more than able to play as a traditional 6 and do it well.

Ange doesn’t use a traditional 6 and his system leaves huge spaces partly because of it

Bissouma loses concentration as the deepest of the three. Bentancur makes silly rash decisions and gets caught out. When Bergvall has played the role he has marshaled himself well without being a traditional 6. Your Kante assumption is just that; an assumption. I choose to assume that if we had a player as good as he was at what he did, it would be a different story.
