What I’m saying is that with our first choice defence we score more and concede less… that’s factually correct even if your opinion is different
Our results with Porro/Romero/VDV/Udogie all starting this season:
Leicester 1 v 1 Spurs
Spurs 4 v 0 Everton
Spurs 0 v 1 Arsenal
Spurs 3 v 1 Brentford
Man Utd 0 v 3 Spurs
Brighton 3 v 2 Spurs
Spurs 4 v 1 West Ham
Palace 1 v 0 Spurs
Spurs 3 v 4 Chelsea

Doesn't exactly scream "Ange will be fine if we just keep everyone fit". Some great results in there but some bad ones too. Not really much different to when we've had injuries there 2bh. In between inconsistent results we've beaten Emirates Marketing Project 4-0 and Southampton 5-0 away with Davies and Dragusin at the back ....

So what you're saying is that if our defence shuts the other team out and our attackers score we win every game? Mind blown, not gonna lie...

Someone best let the club know, we're definitely on to something here. Along with the idea that yoga could improve our injury record. I mean, if we don't share these insights with the club, we're as much to blame for our downfall as anything else.

Gotta let people have their hypothetical copium though, it's almost cruel to burst that bubble..Sometimes it seems like a diagram is needed to demonstrate the difference between what happened, and what actually happened.

If/when we are no longer in any cups and CL chance is gone, Ange will get the push.

Then Mason will take over till the summer.

In July Southgate will arrive with Rashford in tow - it's inevitable.

My favourite currently is "but we are winning the goal difference"....

But it does show exactly what I said, right?
We score more with the first choice defence playing and concede less .

Ok
But we still concede less and score more with the first choice defence playing

Marginally. literally 1 goal less conceded and 2 more goals scored. That's basically 1 game like the chelsea game

I would argue that it makes little difference who we put in there, we concede goals because of the system, not the players. The evidence is in the chances created against us over the season, it is an absolutely ridiculous stat. I think (dont quote me) but in 6 games we had had like 120 chances against us or something.

Strength of schedule should be factored in on that too.

We spent a lot of last season waiting for “first choice” players to come back, assuming that would get us back to our early season form. It didn’t happen.

If the players available don’t fit the system we should be using a different one.

Those figures are only marginally different from one another and do more to prove it doesn't make a difference tbh

That said it doesn't take in to account the number of games that were played or level of opposition so you need to add a bit more detail before you can start drawing conclusions

Tbf it's a genuinely intriguing stat. You can make it look like we have a really mean defence but if you lose as many games as we do by 1 goal it doesn't hide that something is going severely wrong.

Can we expect better having lost players in key positions, it's probably a debate for another thread.

Every team has injuries and we are playing the same amount of games as any other English team in Europe. Why have we spent half a season with most of our defence out injured two seasons in a row under Postecoglu? You need to manage a season and manage a game within a season at this level and IMO so far he's shown himself completely incapable of doing that....
Happy to accept that part of the reason for so many injuries could be on Ange and his demands but the every team has injuries thing is gonads, we aren't just talking about an injury here and there - do you want to show me another team that has their first choice goalkeeper, and both first choice centre backs out at the same time along with other first teamers out and backups getting suspended/injured too?

It's all well and good saying Ange should just manage a season but when there's that many absences along with having to try and remain competitive it's really not as simple as some of you lot like to make out with a squad that really isn't as good as some like to believe....
