Andros Townsend

And in a match like West Ham he gave us nothing, he lacked either the trickery or the pace to get round their defence. I find it interesting that we signed Siggy after he had excelled in the previous two season in one position and then play him in a different position. I like Siggy but I fear we have brought too many players over the last two years whose best position is behind a central striker

The thing about that is, for Siggy to thrive he needs top top class forward play. It is no coincidence that his goals against Norwich and Chelski came from quick, one-touch awareness play via Soldado and Eriksen...I think he's getting into some superb positions this season but requires speed of thought and foot around him. There was not enough of that against West Ham for a variety of reasons...

Been fantastic again so far, more media spotlight for him after this, hope he stays grounded and dont turn into wunder**** like Bale

Agree.

Really hope he carries on in this form when he gets back to Spurs. He was already playing well for us, but seems to have found another gear for England.
Hopefully the fact he is a Tottenham fan will help us hold onto him when the inevitable touting begins

Re: Official - Townsend

has that ****iness that will take him far. not that i am trying to turn this into a comparison with him and Lennon but azza always struck me as someone who didnt have the best confidence in his own ability, or have that ****iness and confidence to take to that next step.

Re: Official - Townsend

I thought that he did well tonight, staying wide and delivering crosses in to good areas. Mixed this up with a couple of dangerous shots.

Hopefully he can stay wide for us, deliver crosses in to the right areas and Soldado can start to benefit from this.

Re: Official - Townsend

Another excellent performance from Townsend for England tonight.

He's now booked his place for Brazil next summer.

Re: Official - Townsend

MotM again for me.

These last two games Townsend has transformed England from one big yawn into something bright and sparkling once again. Just think, if he can take this kind of form with him to Brazil we could have a party.

Direct players always look good against poor defensive players. Against better full backs/defences Townsend won't get as much joy. Plus the opposition will be more aware of him. But I do agree that he has at least provided an entertaining spark that England have sorely been lacking. But I also have little doubt that when we start playing superior opposition Hodgson will drop him and play Walcott/Milner instead.

Goes without saying. But to his credit Townsend has already shown he is capable of taking on and living with the best. He was our one bright spark against Chelsea remember and that was up against reputedly one of the best LBs in world football.

Ha! You mean Woy will revert to type, well probably. Inevitably the competition for the England right-hand berth in a 4-3-3 is intense but Townsend has at least put down a marker, and if Woy's other options fail to spark then we know who he will feel obliged to turn to.

Point is Townsend has shown he is capable of helping lift England out of the doldrums, which at the very least gives us the possibility of more than we dared hope for just a week ago.

Re: Official - Townsend

I've got to say this, currently there is no player at Tottenham that excites me more than Andros. If Lamela had started this season like Townsend we would be commenting on what an amazing buy he'd been. I honestly believe that this boy could become a real hero at the Lane for the next few seasons (until Real Madrid swap him for Sicknote)

Re: Official - Townsend

For a while he will infuriate as much as excite, but to say he's not promising would be daft.
