Andros Townsend

it doesnt have to be polar opposites.

I think i get why pirate55 disagrees, to be a brilliant finisher...you need to be consistently be finishing brilliantly IMO

lennon CAN finish brilliantly, but i dont think that qualifies him in the RvP, Falcao and messi categories...players that DO qualify as brilliant finishers. Or we could make a category for finishers of their ilk and then below it have brilliant finishers...and i still dont think lennon qualifies

i think lennon is a good finisher, and has show brilliant finishes in the past....but its not 'his thing'

he's not a GOALSCORER. But he is a brilliant finisher. If you was to tell me lennon is through on goal, I'd know he would score. 100%.

so he's a **** finisher? Clueless fan.

You are just too funny to be taken seriously. First, you say he is a brilliant finisher, but it is his ****iness and lack of arrogance holding him back. Then you say, he isn't a Goalscorer. However, the times he is one on one with the goalkeeper, he always scores.

Absolute board magic!

But... this is the internet dude - every player has to be brilliant or ****. There is no middle ground.

For me, Lennon is a very average finisher - occasionally he slots them away, but if he tries to bang it, he duffs it into the floor like me on the first tee.

What are you talking about? So you have to be a great goalscorer to be a good finisher? Okay

A good finisher and a goal scorer aren't always the same thing. Vertonghen is a good finisher and yet he'll always be low on the goals given that he plays in defence.

Lively performance from him, someone i really love to watch but i felt at times he was so desperate to score he snatched his shots, maybe because he thinks one bad game and he will be out the team, i hope he gets as well supported by the manager as other players have been in the past.

I think it was another solid good performance by him which shows his promise.

That is less to the point. No defenders are great goalscorers really, because they don't get in the box often. Many players who play in Lennon's position get in the box a lot and score a lot, Lennon doesn't. This is his playing style and isn't necessarily related to his finishing ability.

Whether if Lennon got in the box more he would consistently finish well is another argument, in this respect I agree with Mumorn.

However while I'd agree he is a good finisher he has also duffed a few in his time. RVP never really duffs his shots and he has several a game as opposed to Lennon's several a season. Basically he is a better finisher than his goals tally would indicate, but I think Mumorn is over egging it a bit.

he was told (and quite rightly!) in the second-half to stay WIDE more so as he could take advantage of the space created/leave that space for others too...his shot when coming inside was great 2nd half. First-half he was looking for that space but was playing 5 yards infield (though Walker thus got a lot of space)...but as long as he remains eager to learn from AVb & co, as long as his application and mentality remains and as long as his decision making continues to improve, he will most certainly continue to prove me wrong and quite possibly develop into a very fine player who saves us a lot of money.

MOTM today. Let's see how he does against the filth next week.

I thought he was really good BUT Paulinho was my MOTM, edging Capoue simply by the fact he was there in the 90th min like he was in the 1st...a VERY special player.

you need a good sample to be able to be sure of that. and quite frankly you dont have that.

i have that with bale for instance...brilliant finisher.

how much of that do you have with lennon? evidence of how he reacts to finishing with a keeper spread wide.....when he is put through on the left, through on the right.......one touch finishing with defenders crowding the area

i mean, where is the certainty coming from?

no, but you do have to consistently prove that you are a good finisher to be considered a good finisher.

actually, lets start from the beginning..... what have you seen to make you think this?

why do you think he is a brilliant finisher?

Who won the pen?

MOTM does not go to the best player IMO-it goes to the guy who had the most significant contribution. I made Lloris MOTM in the last game and he nearly earned it again today. The comm on my stream called his save "routine."

Really pleased for the lad..... if he can do something next sunday his career could really take off for the mighty spurs.

I think he has definitely done a good job at showing Andre what he can do.

great by andre to let him start.....mind you didn't think he had much choice after Thursday.

Think he done well today but one thing that was apparent to me is I'd like to see him making more runs off the ball. He wants the ball to feet and then beat a man. Lennon is able to do that very well, Walcott too. Great running off the ball can get you in fantastic positions to pull an opposition shape out of place.

Andros wanted to cut in too much today into an already packed midfield area, but then Bale did the same when playing on the right. When he did get on the ball however he was fearless as AVB said. Good lad. Happy to see him making it here.
