Andros Townsend

Lennon is a brilliant finisher, he just doesnt have that cocciness and arrogance to carry himself. I like the idea of him in the centre though, he has that burst of pace, his first touch is one of the best in the team and he isn't a dumb player, i've seen him play superb reverse passes and clever intricate passes before. He wouldn't be the solution to our creative problems but in a cup game or something it wouldnt be a bad idea to play him there.

I remember Jol once saying he thought he could play central one day.

I remember Jol used him there in the 3-3 FA Cup game at the Bridge. He looked amazing. Though, Hossam Ghaly was the best player on the pitch that day.

Lennon is Jenas-esque-he gets a good living from the game but nobody tears into him if he has a bad game and his good games are forgotten shortly after.

He is our best right winger and he has been at the club some time now. I think we can do better. Maybe Andros is better. Let him prove it to AVB and the fans.

True. I also think his position was always guaranteed to him, he never truly had anyone to challenge that RW/RM spot from him. You could tell because at times he would put up lackluster performances and such. Hopefully Townsend's performances can spark a fire in him to be even better.

I would start both

Lennon on the right and Andros on the left

Nobody has suggested that so far, so if it happens....

But as Mumorn and others have suggested, why does Lennon not run at the central defenders? He has the pace and the ability to be Defoe Max..but does he have the desire?

He'd be wasted on the left. One of his biggest features is cutting inside and shooting from distance, with his left foot. Can't do that on the right. He's much more an inside forward than a winger.

Plus Chadli looks good on the left.

i'd have townsend and lennon rotated to ensure we wear down that flank
chadli and rose are good enough on the other - they are different so I'd pick them depending on who we play - but I think we need one more left-footer as backup.

Ahhh...that match...the one where I finally, finally realized that for all his bubbly ways and personality, Martin was never going to close the big moment for us. That was a match we should never, ever have drawn. Ever. Some of the worst subbing ever. And yes, Ghaly was a monster that day.

Lamela would be an excellent backup

No he would not. I have seen him look menacing on the left wing, this kid is multi faceted and could easily do damage on the left wing.

Fed up of lennon. Hope townsend plays and does well again. Lennon just doesn't have the confidence/skill to get the sort of goal/assist we need from someone in his position. Andros is very confident, direct and never afraid to have a go. Get him in

Decent yes, but brilliant? H'mm.

I think his left foot is stronger, but watch the goal vs Yeovil on the previous page.

Remember his curler against Shamrock? That was with his right wasn't it?

so he's a **** finisher? Clueless fan.

it doesnt have to be polar opposites.

I think i get why pirate55 disagrees, to be a brilliant finisher...you need to be consistently be finishing brilliantly IMO

lennon CAN finish brilliantly, but i dont think that qualifies him in the RvP, Falcao and messi categories...players that DO qualify as brilliant finishers. Or we could make a category for finishers of their ilk and then below it have brilliant finishers...and i still dont think lennon qualifies

i think lennon is a good finisher, and has show brilliant finishes in the past....but its not 'his thing'
