American politics

Yes but thats not happening at any mainstream level until 2023.

There have always been vaccine skeptics, those who distrust government, and those who believe that the main thrust behind pharma is financial. I think when you add the speed with which people were trying to determine exactly what covid19 was (as a specific strain), it's potential effects as related to its strain, and the subsequent accelerated push to get a workable vaccine, there was a ven diagram spot where those areas met and skepticism took hold. I remain unconvinced that people knew there had been much work done in the past on covid vaccines. The early work was done decades ago (this is easily verified via simple google search). I genuinely believe a lot of people thought that the research into a vaccine started on a Monday in early February 2020 or something like that.

The amount of ignorance circulating at the time was both staggering and wholly understandable (ANYONE who claimed to 'know the deal' with covid back then especially got a swerve from me ) and the overriding pervasive air was one of people trying to sort it out and protect lives. There were, as we saw, plenty of nefarious advantage-takers in the mix (that's big-steroid capitalism for you - never let a good crisis go to waste) but this continual witch hunt on Fauci is one of the most blatantly absurd things I have seen for a long time.

You may well be right about that. But you then have to justify the public message in the US that you would not contract or transmit Covid if vaccinated.

When was that ever the message? Can you show me an example?

I did not see that in my area. What I DID see (repeatedly stated) was that the vaccine would help reduce/mitigate any effects of covid. I never once saw a claim that the vaccine would make it impossible to transmit covid (thus why mask mandates continued to be suggested). I always heard that those who were considered to have certain health issues were advised to get the vaccine due to heightened risk of deeper illness/possible death.

Didn't it come from an edited CNN interview that did the rounds?

I have no idea mate. All I remember is that I never saw anyone 'guarantee immunity and no cross-infection' with the vaccine, only that it provided huge support in fighting the effects if you got covid (which everyone I know did FWIW).

I had a quick look on Reuters fact check and seems he never and it was.

Some examples.

Dr Anthony Fauci (May 2021 CBS)
“When you get vaccinated, you not only protect your own health and that of the family, but also you contribute to the community health by preventing the spread of the virus throughout the community. In other words, you become a dead end to the virus. And when there are a lot of dead ends around, the virus is not going to go lol anywhere. And that’s when you get a point that you have a markedly diminished rate of infection in the community.”

President Joe Biden (July 2021 CNN)
“You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky (March 2021 MSNBC)
“Our data from the CDC today suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick, and that it’s not just in the clinical trials, but it’s also in real-world data.”

White House Sr Advisor Andy Slavitt (May 2021 CNN)
“People who are vaccinated, one of the things that they have in common is they’re not dying from COVID and they’re not spreading COVID.”

Fortune Magazine (April 2021) Headline
“It’s official: Vaccinated people don’t transmit COVID-19.”

New York Magazine (April 2 2021) Headline
“CDC Data Suggests Vaccinated Don’t Carry, Can’t Spread Virus,”

Rachel Maddow (MSNBC 2021)
“The virus stops with every vaccinated person.”

Dr. Marc Siegel (Fox News May 2021)
“Vaccinated people don’t have to worry about catching or spreading COVID”

Imagine you read what the CDC actually said instead of picking sound bites. Stop embarrassing yourself

Pre Covid it was very much a lefty viewpoint as well.

Well thats taken out of context, the dialogue is in the below which talks more about severity (I assume due to reduced load) which then impacts those around you.

I will let people make up their minds with the link

Here's the actual transcript of that interview in full

Here's a highlight of what he ACTUALLY said BEFORE the quote you pulled. Context is important when you want to nail a man to the cross.

JOHN dingdongERSON: Good to be with you. The new guidance on masks is confusing people a little because two weeks ago the CDC said that people who had been vaccinated were safer while wearing masks. Now there's new guidance, what changed in that period?

DR. FAUCI: Well, what's happened, there's been an accumulation of data on showing in the real-world effectiveness of the vaccines. It is even better than in the clinical trials, well over 90% protecting you against disease, number one. Number two, a number of papers have come out in the past couple of weeks showing that the vaccine protects even against the variants that are circulating. And thirdly, we're seeing that it is very unlikely that a vaccinated person, even if there's a breakthrough infection, would transmit it to someone else. So, the accumulation of all of those scientific facts, information and evidence brought the CDC to make that decision to say now when you're vaccinated, you don't need to wear a mask, not only outdoors, but you don't need to wear it indoors.

JOHN dingdongERSON: So, on that third point, let me ask you this. If I have no symptoms and I have been vaccinated, but I- but I am infected, what's the difference between that? And if I have no symptoms and I'm infected but have not been vaccinated?

DR. FAUCI: Good question, JOHN. And what the- what the issue is, is that the level of virus in your nasal pharynx, which is correlated with whether or not you were going to transmit it to someone else, is considerably lower. So even though there are breakthrough infections with vaccinated people, almost always the people are asymptomatic, and the level of virus is so low, it makes it extremely unlikely, not impossible, but very, very low likelihood that they are going to transmit it. Whereas when people who are getting infected, who were without symptoms, who are not vaccinated, generally the titer or the level of virus, relatively speaking, is higher than in the vaccinated individuals.

President Joe Biden (July 2021 CNN)
“You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”

He was incorrect.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky (March 2021 MSNBC)
“Our data from the CDC today suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick, and that it’s not just in the clinical trials, but it’s also in real-world data.”

She was corrected 72 hours later by the CDC.

White House Sr Advisor Andy Slavitt (May 2021 CNN)
“People who are vaccinated, one of the things that they have in common is they’re not dying from COVID and they’re not spreading COVID.”

Broadly speaking he wasn't off-base.

Beyond Walensky's errant (and swiftly corrected) comment, when did any government or health official state that the vaccine prevented infection and spread unequivocally?
The snapshot in time you have focussed your examples from center around a 3 month period, when confusion continued to spew all sorts of media driven misinformation.

I never said it was exclusive to the CDC.
