American politics

I will go one further with "compromise" in the current US system; it is actually dead thanks to the enormous egos of those involved, principally 45 who has no interest in anything other than his own stats. Any budgetary deals made are with gritted teeth and the knowledge that the narcissist in place would rather burn the house down than help/lead.

You do know the state the US was in when he got elected, right? Before he could even set to doing anything he might've actually wanted to do, his first order of business was to correct the financial situation in the US and prevent it sliding into an abyss. In essence, he carried the can for the disastrous tenure of his predecessor, who was clearly interested only in his own "people" (what a shock). Economic matters take time to sort out -especially the ones the US was dealing with at the time. So, his first two years were spent trying to sort that mess out as well as looking for some sort of bipartisan moves to bring the factions together; this proved too difficult given the time.

I agree with A lot of what you say but there is a point where You have to say “that’s the job” he didn’t spend all those years fighting to get to be president to not know the grift.

2 terms and a lot of correcting the past and influence the future. You don’t get a pass and a shrug of the shoulders as if it’s not your fault.

Keeping comparisons to any other presidents aside Obama media popularity vastly outweighed his success, the heading out for burgers and well choreographed YouTube’s with him dancing down corridors of the White House gave him a lot of cloud over some of the international damage he did which is mentioned a few postings before.

Where he suffered from the previous president he gains from Trump because his failings are covered by the fact Trump is a complete loon.

Don’t get me wrong Obama is a nice guy, slick and likeable but that isn’t enough to rewrite history

Good points but in 2 years I think there's the possibility of doing more than he did. He should have ended the drone programme for instance, shut down Guantanomo Bay all of which he gave speeches promising he'd do.

Then you have to look at the 2010 mid terms, if he was doing so well and doing such a great job why was there such a large swing? (I don't actually know as don't follow US politics enough but he had quite a large majority at the time).

I know you're sharper than the above comment, and I also know you're better than to think I don't understand the concepts at work. Political systems want you to believe they work on compromise over backroom bullying, threats and coercion. There is, in the US at any rate, literally zero "bipartisan coming together" right now, it is all about forcing things through using whatever threats and underhanded tactics you can. Now, I will admit that to some this can be termed "compromise" but not me. It is coertcion.
Call it what you want, a politician with more experience and more willingness to play along gets more done.

Obama's intentions were admirable, his ability and experience were lacking.

The federal and political system has been systematically degraded since Reagan. That was one of his his main ambitions. There is now an overwhelming majority of politically appointed positions, often held by utterly incompetent people, instead of professionals. And the GOP now only consists of ass lickers.
The state of that country is unbelievable!

You make that sound like a conspiracy.

It shouldn't be surprising that a party who (rightly) believes in small government reduces the size of the government.

There is no party, there is just Donald.

Oh, there is a party. Having Trump get all the attention is perfect for the most sinister of them. They're busy making life worse for most Americans so the rich can get just a little bit richer. They've stacked the courts with conservative judges. A second term would mean at least one more SC judge and an end to whatever remaining rights ordinary people have over there.

The constant attacks on mail votes has a secondary objective: The GOP (and probably quite a few Democrats as well) wants to get rid of the US Postal Service. I'm sure that's entirely down to their belief that privatisation is good and nothing to do with the bribes involved when awarding the contracts.

I was thinking more from Don's perspective.
