Definitely not a pyrrhic victory imo. The shutdown hurt Trump more than the democrats even though most Trump supporters will need a lot more to even consider changing their minds.

Had the democrats folded (again) it would have been a massive win for him, and I think we would have seen more shutdowns over other issues.

The hostage taking by Trump caused a lot of harm, but that's not on the democrats and they handled the situation as well as they could.

It's only a small victory for the democrats though. The whole situation remains a dumpster fire, and Trump supporters and the republicans they control show no real signs of change. But a small victory it's better than a massive defeat.

Interestingly the Constitution is set up to maintain that separation of Church and State and there are rumblings that Trump's close relationship with religious leaders is actually unconstitutional.
