American politics

They'll probably have to wait for him to lose in 2020. As was said in an article I posted a while back, unlike Nixon who stepped down, Trump is not a patriot and does not give a feck about his country. The Republicans won't do anything either as they're all just looking out for themselves.
Depends on the mid term. Then, depending on how much power the republicans keep in the midterm, on Trump's approval rating among republican voters.

Right now it seems whatever Trump does his supporters will remain with him. I don't think that's actually true. But it depends on what Muller can actually prove and what the evidence is. As the Muller team seems leak proof that is all speculation at this point.

The lurking filth here is that PENCE has managed to somewhat successfully avoid any interaction with Trump. It is bizarre. Never has a Veep been so distant in so many ways from POTUS. It will work to his advantage here if he ends up having to fill-in...and don't be fooled, if he fills in, the ONLY way he will be any better is if the Midterms obliterate Republican influence...otherwise it will be another brick sandwich...
If Pence ends up taking over at some point his political power will be extremely limited I think. It will almost certainly mean a massively divided republican party and he will be the president no one voted for. If another supreme justice appointment comes up it's bad news, but no worse than with Trump. Other than that most of what he can do should be easily reversed.

If Trump is forced out I'm more worried about the period of time between Trump realizing that he's most likely done and the time he's actually without power. That's the kind of scary thought that partly makes me hope he survives in the job for four years and is then removed by losing the election.

A desperate Trump losing his grip on power, selfishly looking for any action that will let him stay in power, profit personally or spacegoat someone or something else is a terrifying situation.

Presidential power is diminished in the second half of a term but he has shown that he is very willing to abuse executive orders.

Problem with this is that for most Republican candidates, their only realistic competition is another Republican candidate. Until they have to start worrying about Democratic candidates, they'll support Trump because if they don't, the next republican will.
