Alfie Devine

Then drop down to being third choice in that position when Xavi comes back?

Maddison is nearly 30, will have 1 year left on his contract next summer, and may not properly get over his injury set-back. The door is ajar if Devine backs himself.

Hope we insert a buy-back. I still think he's got the talent to make it.

I'm also worried that Maddison is our only specialist #10 at the club until Simons returns next spring. We maybe need a loan in to cover that gap

Doubt it.
I'd prefer a sell-on clause rather than a buy-back.
No matter how many trees he pulls up for Preston, it's unlikely to display enough for us to then want to buy him back, especially if we are back challenging the top 6/top 4 in the league.
He may have the talent to make it, but that'll probably be truly demonstrated at his club after Preston.

I guess its just if in 12 months he's at Wharton at Blackburn or Eze at QPR levels, which he has the ability to be. Could we then get him back for nominal, or see him go for very big fees in 2-3 years time. Its just protecting ourselves like Madrid always do

I think he might end up being an Everton level player. Sell on would be better than buy-back as it seems finally the club have decided they want to go for glory instead of merely 'competing for the European places'

Fernandez sets the new standard at only 21 years old and premier league competencies. Grey, Bergvall and Moore needs to go up another level or two. The rest even more.

I honestly think had he been at the club the past 2 seasons he would have got a ton of games due to the injuries. Luck just never went his way on that front.
