Aaron Lennon

Yeah, he was a good player, remember a game against Nante at the Lane, we could not break them down and Peters in particular tried everything, we won 1-0 and he scored with a fantastic clipped volley from the edge of the area, very under rated imo, was outstanding at Norwich too.

Aaron Lennon is the fourth fastest player in the world running with the ball. No 1 is Bale. (According to a study carried out by Mexican club Pachuca and endorsed by FIFA)

1. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid): 36.9 km/h
2. Jürgen Damm (Pachuca): 35.23 km/h
3. Antonio Valencia (Manchester United): 35.1 km/h
4. Aaron Lennon (Tottenham): 33.8 km/h
5. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid): 33.6 km/h
6. Theo Walcott (Arsenal): 32.7 km/h
7. Lionel Messi (Barcelona): 32.5 km/h
8. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United): 31.2 km/h
9. Franck Ribéry (Bayern Munich): 30.7 km/h
10. Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid): 30.6 km/h

The fastest sprint ever is 44,7 kmph. Usain Bolt during his WC 100m sprint.

And he is a specialised sprinter... Bale is fudging quick!

It would be interesting to see Bale up against Bolt. Bolt would obviously win but I wonder how much difference there would be.

It's always rumoured that there's a number of NFL players who could hold world records for 100m but they tend to shy away from actually testing them (far too valuable, I assume).

Drug bans would probably be harmful to their careers. ;)

Any idea how they defined "running with the ball"?

Interesting numbers regardless, but some players on that list have a tendency to knock the ball past players or run into space using fairly long touches. Others, like Messi, tends to run a lot with the ball close to his feet with plenty of touches. Not saying the numbers aren't a reflection of reality, just that it's probably a rather imperfect way of measuring unless they've put a lot of time into getting the validity of it right.

I'm calling flimflam on this.
If this was real data the speeds would bunch up.
How does a Mexican football club get access to this data?
I've googled around and the study was to compare their player to some other players.
They have probably selected just 10 players they thought were fast and looked at one or two runs.

Remember some years ago, probably in the late nineties. Norwegian television did a race between one of the fastest players in the Norwegian league, Lasse Olsen, and Geir Moen who was the european Champions on 200 meters at the time.

No contest at all, the sprinter was out of the blocks before the footballer Even registered the start gun and just left him for dust.

I'd like to see Bale, Bolt and Yedlin compete...

Yedlin was timed in the 40-yard dash at Akron and “was running about a 4.2 or 4.3,” said Jared Embick, who replaced Porter as Akron’s head coach. “People talk about NFL guys running 4.2, 4.3. DeAndre has that kind of pace
