25/26 Injury and illness thread

Ange out!!

...but seriously, it's way, way beyond ridiculous - and has been for a while - and the club really should be all over this to try to understand why we succumb to so many injuries.

Not just us
The data shows that since the Covid season players that have a higher volume of international games are getting more and more injuries
The compacted nature of the calendar makes it worse
It’s not the way we play (despite what people think)

It isn’t just us, but the post you quoted shows our players have missed 50% more games than the next highest Prem side. So although we aren’t the only side to register an injury this season we’ve clearly had it significantly worse than any other team in the Prem.

It’s the third season in a row we’re at the top, or in the top 2 or 3, of the “injury league”, it’s literally debilitating to the squad. Everyone (fans, press, pundits) has become immune to it and It’s just not accepted as an excuse anymore.

I wasn’t trying to receive that TBH
More that injuries are on the rise across the board
For 2 years it was because of Ange and now we’re playing static football we’re still getting them
And I don’t think it can be an excuse unless it’s in season injuries
Maddison’s not in our said is he at the moment because we know he out until mid next year for example
Kulu is next year too and likely solanke
It does skew the numbers and it’s something that the manager and club should have a plan for

I agree injuries are on the rise across the board, the players are playing way too many games and have been for a long time now.

Not sure I understand your points on the Spurs injuries though, why do long term injuries skew the numbers? It’s just a factual representation of games missed by each squad.

The club bought Xavi to cover the maddison injury and Muani for the Solanke one, but Muani’s been permanently crocked since signing too!

The numbers are the numbers
They won’t change because we have the long term absentees

My issue is that Frank reacting to losing someone like Kudus is valid as he has actually played for him and is part of the puzzle

Kulu, Maddison and to a point solanke haven’t. And Ange knew that for a long time so shouldn’t have many plans on dealing without them
No team ever has a fully fit squad so managers have to adapt. Frank did say today about who he is missing… he should really be focussing on who he has and what he can do with them. That’s the big I think that’s missed and it’s what I expected from him as a flexible coach

ah I see, your ignoring the long term ones so that frank isn’t allowed that excuse by you.

No I’m ignoring them because they aren’t players he has had

He should do his best with what he has available. Thats the job of management. Not to say…. Ah but if and when I have other resources, because that day may never come.

Managers have short lives in football

That’s exactly what I said your view was in my post

Just did some lunchtime research

Solanke missed a chunk last year (11 league games)
So did Maddison, and the previous one (he averages less than 30 prem games a season and this one is a non starter)
Kulu was an ever present before his injury and maybe that didn’t help as we didn’t have rotational depth
Sonny missed 8 league games too

We also lost bentacur because of his suspension and the defenders regularly

Players get injured so you need a plan

I don't think the missing players are the panacea for all of our ills if I'm honest. Solanke and Maddison are both questionable in terms of effectiveness. I worry we are doing that thing again where a missing or injured players become better the longer they are missing.

Kulu is though a genuine miss, we were basically the Kulusevski team for large portions of last season, especially before Xmas.

Every player gets better the less they are available

Are you saying that even though the data shows Frank is significantly disadvantaged by injuries compared to his rivals, it doesn't matter because his name is not Ange and the injured players aren't Romero and VDV?
I’m the data you need to take out players such as Maddison, Kulu and Solanke to see how it affects the number
I may be wrong but most injuries we have had with players playing for Frank have been a few weeks
The long term ones will make that number worse
I think the numbers should be sanitised around players who were available but now aren’t
You can’t miss what you never had

Had a look at our injury data
We have 4 players on it who were injured way before before the season started

Takai
Maddison
Kulu
dragusin

We have one player on it that’s actually played a few minutes this season in Solanke

Problem is we think of players as injured or not injured based on whether they are on this list. As we've seen with Udogie, 100% match fitness and form consistently is what it's all about. Udogie hasn't been anywhere near that for any 2 week period.

Maybe
My concern is when people quote the injury league table it’s misleading for us at least
Who remembers takai and dragusin flying for us….
How about when Frank has Kulu bombing down the wing
And people want to use it but don’t agree we have also strengthened which is daft imo, as we clearly have
