To be fair difficult circumstances for him. Lacking match fitness still after his injury, playing on the left up against City. But at the same time some of the issues on show are things we have seen before from him too. If I was him I'd be slightly concerned about how well Palhinha has done at...

That's how I see it too. I hope part of it is "periodisation". We have a lot of injuries and probably fatigue in the squad. We looked really good for 20-25 minutes in the second half against City, but we could all see how exhausted the players looked towards the end. We can't play like we did...

    Dominic Solanke

Yeah, been really good and great to have him back. Question with him will be if he can replicate his scoring form from his last season at Bournemouth. If he can he's a really good and really well rounded striker. Offers us a lot of what we need.

    João Palhinha

Yeah, there were several situations that were similar to the Cherki goal, he just stepped up and won the ball. Like Romero doing that there's obviously going to be a risk with that, fouls, getting done, but like the Cherki goal illustrates standing off someone comes with risk too.

Been saying for quite a while now that a tweak to our buildup with a 4-2-3-1 system would be to have him drop into the back line in buildup where he looks more comfortable, allowing Gray/whoever to be in that receiving the ball in midfield role and allowing the full backs to move a bit higher...

    Archie Gray

Absolutely. And on the ball too, like suddenly doing an ambitious cross field pass under pressure.

In addition to the two goals they had Haaland through on goal, they had the Cherki shot close to goal from a tight angle. Sure goals were a result of us losing possession, but that's kind of what happens when we struggle that badly to progress the ball. All first half us having possession...

You don't think there's a pattern there of them and us looking better when we as a team take the handbrake off, play with more attacking intent, more players getting forward? I think when we're playing more cautiously we're essentially playing in a way that demands individual brilliance to...

Hopefully a precautionary sub, no way that was tactical.

Really good second half after a for me poor first half. Keep reading that our players just aren't good enough, but to me it seems that almost every time we take the handbrake off we look alright. Can't be too harsh on Frank after that second half and with the number of players missing up...

My humour isn't the best (or so I've been told, I like it), I'll just assume the stuff that seems far fetched is the funny bit 😉

    Djed Spence

How do you see his strengths? I think he's at his best driving forward with the ball, tight spaces too and getting out of those with skill and physicality. Not a great crosser or creative passer, not bad at it, but not a strength. Defensively he's really good one on one, but maybe sometimes...

Are you being serious with these kinds of comments these days or is it a parody thing?

You should have course be right. I think he may just be good enough, and more importantly mature enough both in his attitude and how he plays that even the youth-phobic Mourinho could have played him. Maybe I overrate him somewhat (Gray, not Mourinho).

Thomas Frank - Former Head Coach

Yeah, that was pretty much my impression too. We got 5 points from those games. So with us as an example of PL domination in Europe looking just at the table/results is somewhat misleading. Haven't seen any of the games with other English teams so no idea if they've been more convincing.

Depends what one means by quality? Perhaps also a point that while teams in the PL will struggle with the physicality of some opponents teams in the PL are much more used to coming up against that. Teams from other leagues aren't and adjusting to that takes more than a game or two. In our case...

I'm definitely all for giving managers and coaches credit, past and present. And for sure he seemed to develop well under Ange too and I think he got real valuable experience last season. I think the main thing with him is that he's a fantastic talent with a maturity well beyond his years though.

    Wilson Odobert

He's still young enough that we imo shouldn't put too much pressure on him to perform short term. But some of his recent performances have been showing what he can do and I'm excited to see if he can do more of the same in tougher games. We sure could do with him keeping this up.

I would give them until the summer before making strong statements on their intentions. Not looking great at this point, but the January window is difficult and all that.
