J P van Hecke

If the asking price is too high, I think the club should be asking themselves whether he is that much better than Vuskovic. That's money that could be spent elsewhere - our midfield is in dire need of a revamp and midfielders tend to be more expensive than defenders.

Assuming Romero leaves for a decent fee, I'd rather go into next season with VdV, Senesi, Danso and Vuskovic + 50m for a midfielder, than VdV, Senesi, Danso and Van Hecke.

Unfortunately, most managers want to build their first team from the back, which means that De Zerbi is probably pushing hard for a deal as Van Hecke is probably more suited to what he has in mind.

I know it was a small sample, but he looked pretty ropey defensively in the Japan game last night. He was flat footed for their first goal, and lost his marker for the second

Mind you van de Ven didn't cover himself in glory either (played everyone onside for the first)

Holland looked a really mediocre team all round really

I think the Dutch generally are going through a poor time atm re coaching. Slot has been a bright spot in that time imo, but they still generally look weak in terms of coaching defenders and forwards these days compared to the the earlier part of the century. The quality of their league has declined in tandem.

Van Heck and Van Der Ven's issues probably have to be analysed in that light

Looking at the blow to the head he took, I wonder how impactful that was on his play last night.

Which explains why de Zerbi is pushing the boat for them... they are perfect for his system.

Surprised where Romero and VDV are in the chart.... sobering statistic
And Romero is this supposed world class passer "the best in the PL" is always being claimed. VDV is a non entity passing wise and that's obvious from the eye test, stats not needed.

I wonder if de Zerbi would be happy to sell them both actually... seeing as playing from the back and resistance to the press are major requirements of the centre backs in his system....
