Do you think that most of Conor's best work was off the ball and not necessarily picked up by the TV cameras? That can happen with player like himself and Bents.

Admittedly, I wasn't overly impressed with his debut but what I did notice was momentum shifting in our direction in the second half. That is normally down to the engine room players doing the hard yards. I'm guessing Conor was part of that equation.

I was at the game, watching him in anticipation of what he could bring. Did not really witness that.
 
Looked a bit off the pace, no surprise. Still moments where you can see what he brings. He’s a solid player who has some quality. He’s not going to win games by himself. And atm we have to answer the question: who is going to score the goals.

i saw a lot of him fighting and winning balls not entirely anonymous like odobert, muani and solanke (for the time he had)

given that this is a rushed and first game and TF's structure and playing patterns are a mess - he already improved the team.
imo he is a better version of paulinha and I look forward to playing stats in future

Got forward more in the second half, when we actually tried to attack and play with more "risk". Showed a bit of what he can do if he's given that freedom to roam and move.

Think the game swung mostly because of game state, we had to attack, they were happy to defend. But Gallagher was also fine. Bissouma arguably better and more important in that half.
 
The biggest issue with Gallagher will be for those who expect him to make a dramatic difference. That's just not his game, he's very much more of the same but a better version of it (how much better is to be determined). He doesn't bring a new and different skill set to the starting 11, he isn't able to do the things that some of us think the squad is missing.

I do expect with a happier 11, additional players who have the qualities we are missing and a coach who is getting more out of the team in general, Gallagher's better qualities will shine but if you're expecting a dramatic difference to come from him in this environment, you will be disappointed.

How big of a difference can he be? An issue here is shouldn't we try to spend our money on players who can make the biggest difference?

Another issue is that we now have a lot of players who are arguably best suited to a "number 8" role. Gallagher, Bentancur, Bergvall, Gray, Sarr. Meaning that if we do sign a midfielder that can make a dramatic/big difference we're way over stocked on those "number 8" players. And at least a couple of them are really talented players that will need game time.

Our midfield has been unbalanced for years and years. This doesn't even start to solve that problem.

None of those are problems with Gallagher as such, I rate him as a player. Another good thing with him is that he's fairly well rounded, should fit in well with most managers/systems so if there is a change in management he's unlikely to be a wasted signing.

But if we do get a manager who wants to play more through the middle and play with a deep playmaker type it leaves him and our transfer team with some massive headaches.

To me a good solution here and now. Bergvall and Gray are really young, Bentancur is injured. Can work with different managers. Longer term he's a really good player so that's good. But I would like our transfer strategy to have principles like "fix balance issues" and medium to long term don't create new headaches.

Assuming we have a new manager come the summer some big decisions to make having not had the chance to work with the players decisions have to be made on.

In short, positives and negatives.
