He also clears a lot more set pieces
But he has had 2 goals this season where he palmed it into play
And the long range Brighton shot that he knows he should have done better on
I think he is class. He does what a keeper is there to do… save shots
Mine issue is keepers now are expected to have some outfield ability.
It’s interesting that Pep has gone for a shot stopper rather than a footballing keeper. He normally starts the trend

I said earlier that I didn't think he was as good as we need, to challenge, but it's the coaches and TF who see him day in and day out who's opinion count the most. He's been great last 2 games but he has been prone to mistakes too especially taking the ball from a cross. If he can improve that side of his game then I think he can be a great.

His dealing with crosses is much better
Well worth looking at the data on that
I think that’s a legacy perception
His kicking isn’t perfect
And he can also make some odd decisions
And as I said in this thread there are 3 goals he should have done better on
But… he is already way ahead of every keeper in the division on goal gains and that’s his job

I used the eye test when the ball is in the air and felt he has a tendency to flap at it. But he is a brilliant shot stopper.

But he gets the ball
That’s why the data is needed
If he gets the ball even by flapping it’s much better than looking assured and not getting the ball at all … and conceding
We have had many vampire goalkeepers and that’s the easiest way to play

He doesn’t always get the ball. The ball in the air really doesn’t appear to be a strength. I think we will have to agree to disagree!

Wasn't there one just against Everton he didn't get a hand to?

He seems quite strong mentally. Makes some mistakes, but bounces back and doesn't let it impact him that much. That's vital in a goalkeeper.

If he did, I don’t remember it
But he comes for nearly everything now and it means the team know where they stand (no pun intended)

Can't quite remember if it was the Everton game, but was a recent one at least. Came for it, went over him, but luckily one of our lads was there to head it away.

Think he's finding a good balance on when to come for it and when not to now. Probably helped by overall better defending for set pieces too. Mistakes will happen, but as long as the balance is good enough that's fine.

Keepers are odd players
They aren’t footballers
What you need is a balance with them and their defenders

People don’t like Vic talking to younger players in an aggressive style … obviously we have no idea what he is saying to them. But he is a leader in this team.

I think all season he has been better tbh. Sure he has had the odd game where he has been suspect from balls in the air still, but can't expect him to make positive changes and not suffer the odd hiccup.

He is a brilliant shot stopper as we all know, and improving aerially to even just be average which I think he is at not makes him one of the best keepers in the league overall - I don't see us getting better even if he's not perfect and the stats show him to be up there with the very best in the league so this is not a position to concern ourselves with for the foreseeable IMO(even though I appreciate the next bad game he has the same old debates will return :D).....
