João Palhinha

Sure we can partner Palhinha with Sarr/Bentancur. Or play all three in midfield. We can with Palhinha set up to be overall really difficult to break down.

What we also can do with Palhinha is what we saw in the second half against Brighton. Play him and essentially surround him with more attacking and creative players. Imo he makes that work in a way that Bentancur, Bissouma or Sarr don't to the same extent at least.

Palhinha himself is what he is, he does more or less the same regardless. He's not versatile or well rounded in the same way some of our other players are. But he still gives us flexibility.

For me [and i know i have said it before] he has been our most important signing this summer. We have lacked a player with his skill set for several years and he has shown on the pitch how important he is and how much we have missed a player like him. Keep it up son.

As you know I am right there too. What he allows others to do, and what he allows Frank to do, is excellent.

I'm definitely a complete convert now.

My only hesitancy is tactical - I don't like seeing both him and Bentancur starting against weaker sides, we need to go with one of them, plus Bergvall (or Sarr when he's freed from the 10 role, or Gray)
I think Bentancur has been forced to play a deeper role because Bissouma didn't work out. He was always more of a box to box midfielder rather than a defensive midfielder. He has been sacrificing his usual game because that is what the team needed from him and he shouldn't be punished for that. I am sure with Palhinha here, he will get back to playing a more offensive role than last year.

He's shown how average the current midfield options are, we need another couple in of his level and allow the younger players to hopefully develop to this level
Tbf I wouldn't mind just having more faith in Gray and allowing him more game time to develop, even if we have to go through a period of pain. I think like Bergvall it would be rewarding in a relatively short space of time.....
