It's the place that annoys me, for all the talk of Spurs underachievement, what would the last 20 years have looked like for us without Chelsea, City, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, cheating their way to the top?

Totally agree. I guess the only caveat is that seeing the potential in the game, the league, the club etc is what ENIC did, and they took their bet on it. But because it’s a great opportunity, other owners saw fit to put their own spin on it too

So I guess my point is, I would have loved to see a world in which we end up competing with United and I guess Arsenal as the true challengers with sustainability at our core, the fact that other owners could also come in, as ours did, is just part of the game itself. It has to be factored in, and so we are where we are.

This latest round of ‘getting around the rules’ does seem especially egregious though. I haven’t read too deeply into it and still need to, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some justification around promoting / investing in the women’s game for example, which just so happens to conveniently benefit the men’s side too.

This is also why I've been saying I'm less fussed about doing it the 'right way' anymore. When you can have put all the work in to do something sustainably and then you have to compete with this nonsense, I'd rather just join the party ourselves. We have done the hardest part.
There is no right way
You literally just have to have owner funding and that will never happen with our owners

Selling your own womens team. To another company you own. Is not putting money into the women's game.

Challenge for top 6 and hopefully another trophy, don’t care which one but the super cup or the FA cup as we haven’t won that in too long. Definitely need 3 new forwards if we want to challenge any higher than that. And a DM.

Groan .. when brick is so obvious

[Ornstein] Aston Villa agree deal to sell women’s team to holding company V Sports & a stake to prominent US-based investors. #AVFC say no issues regarding Premier League PSR rules + advanced talks with UEFA on resolution to FFP compliance @TheAthleticFC

I don't think this will fly with UEFA, but who knows. In any case, this takes care of this season for them. They'll have to conjure up something else next season, if they don't make CL again (which they won't). Personally, I can't wait to see them fall back into irrelevancy.

With the addition of first Kudus and now Gibbs-White I feel confident that a Top 8 finish is a minimum that we can expect. It's not guaranteed of course with of all the flux of having a new coach, a change in system, new players etc, but I feel excited with the prospect of this season coming. Something that I have to say I wasn't feeling a couple of months ago.

I like both players’ profile, they're comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces and can retain possession under pressure. Both drive forward with intent, forcing situations through a blend of aggression and quality. They're the kind of players who can help shape the game, not just play in it.

I'm not getting ahead of myself, but I really like what I'm seeing. The club is making smart moves early in the marke, exactly how intelligent, forward-thinking, and ambitious teams operate. It's encouraging.

Depending on how quickly Frank gets to grips with the squad and how well the players adapt, a serious push for the top four — along with strong cup runs — might not be unrealistic this season. Personally, I think top six should be the target, but there shouldn’t be any pressure on the manager just yet. We need to actually see how he implements his ideas and how it all fits together on the pitch.

There are also of course going to be players leaving and how that impacts the balance of the squad remains to be be seen. There’s a lot still to unfold and I’m expecting a bit of a rollercoaster. But honestly? I’m ready for it. :tearsofjoy:

Agree. A lot of the time there are optimistic expectations pre season based on nothing (football fans in general, not Spurs specific). But there have been a lot of changes at Spurs, and this has been followed up with some positive movement in the market early on. It remains to be seen what the net result of our transfers will be as obviously will be plenty of outgoings too. But I am confident in our recruitment since the Paratici era, and Gibbs-White really is a fantastic addition and I would say perhaps one more upgrade/quality signing (especially if it was a midfield general) and our team really will be elevated. Then it's just a case of letting our generally young team gain more experience and flourish.

Whilst of course we should target a reasonably high position, that's not the main concern for me in season one with Frank. We are clearly gearing to the long game, and finishing top 4/5 in the first season with previous managers hasn't done us much good in the long term. So I just want to see our squad getting used to Frank's style of play/requirements in season one, and whatever will be will be in terms of position. I know it's easier said than done to suggest results are not the primary focus, but I think they will take care of themselves and we should be in and around where we would expect to be ie top 6-8.

Things are feeling positive with the fans at the moment, including many more critical ones so hopefully we can continue this vibe to the end of the window and into the new season.....

Many of our youngsters with a years more experience, some genuine exciting attacking additions (truly in the Spurs type player mould), a new manager with fresh ideas for us to digest, and fingers crossed, a back 4 fit and healthy.

Optimism abounds.
