Mason Melia

He's very highly rated. Have a couple of mates who are Pats fans who called him as a real talent 12 months ago.

I've seen him a couple of times in the flesh but wasn't looking out for him and he didn't really stand out.

Will keep an eye on him this season in games against my club. Hopefully he doesn't stand out too much in those matches again...

Only watch the odd league of Ireland game, but know a few that go to games, including a St. Pats fan, and they all say he is brilliant for his age.
Broke into St. Pats team at 15 and youngest ever scorer in LoI.

I've seen the name linked for a while but had forgotten about him. It seems we are hedging our bets on centre forwards. We saw Parrott and Kion Etete come and go but still have Scarlett, Veliz and Lanks that we're assessing. Then we've bought Feeney and now Melia. Obviously Tel is only 19.

If just one of these guys makes it, we'll be in a happy place. If a couple don't but get us a Townsend or Mason level transfer fee then we'll also be happy.

I don't know, but I'm sure the professional team St. Pats will find plenty to do with it.
I didnt think Ireland had any professional league at all? I thought League of Ireland was always semi-pro? Hence why Irish players have always had more homegrown type rights in England and Scotland that other nationalities?

Quite a few of the teams are pro particularly in the top division. Pats have Stephen Kenny (ex Ireland manager) and they've signed quite a few good players so I'd imagine they could do with a few quid.

Irish teams will find a way to waste the money. Dundalk had a great run under Kenny a few years ago and were in the group stages of the Europa with some decent results. They went down last year and were on the verge of going under.

Someone said to me the other day that most teams in our 5th tier, the National League, are professional nowadays. That surprised me a little actually.

So I see the LOI is about to start again. So gets a full season in and then has November/December off before being able to complete the transfer. So probably will come in during December to start training.

The old saying, GAA is an amateur sport run by professionals, Football is a professional sport run by amateurs.

Was just reading on RTE yesterday after the above post that Dundalk got 11m for their European run in 2016. Yet their ground is an absolute dump and they are now in the 1st Division and struggling badly. You'd wonder why and how.

LOI is littered with stories like that to varying degrees. Sure my beloved Waterford were taken over around that time by a fella who it seems didn't have the cash to back it up (Lee Power, once of Norwich), he sold it to a fella who wanted his kid in the team and sacked our manager 3 days before a promotion/relegation play off (to be replaced for that game by ex-Spur Ian Hendon) and eventually the owners of Fleetwood took us over. Then it turns out that the new chairman was done for fraud and is now serving 13 years in jail.

And people complain about Levy...

And below in some cases, best way to launder money in that league (I only jest slightly)

St Patrick's Athletic manager Stephen Kenny says his 17-year old striker Mason Melia could have moved to the continent this year but the transfer to Tottenham Hotspur was the one he really wanted.

Melia made history by becoming the league's first million euro player after Pat's and Spurs agreed on an initial fee of €1.8m, with the Wicklow-born centre-forward joining the Premier League club on 1 January 2026.
