I've seen this movie.
Is this in reference to the PHP vulnerability?Looks like ai can shutdown the internet now. At least for important sites.
On Tuesday, the world found out about two massive security vulnerabilities in PHP, a programming language that is used by roughly 70 percent of websites. The flaw was discovered by cybersecurity researchers using a frontier model from OpenAI. If they exploited it, attackers could gain full control of servers, stealing or copying anything inside or simply taking sites offline.
We'll be back to the barter system before long.Yep. As soon as it got out there was a weakness, there were millions of attacks. So they shut down till they could fix the hole.
People can't do millions of attacks in that time. AI can.
It does plenty of good things alreadyDon't tell me 'misinformation' has been identified as the best tool in politics and conflict. It's starting to build a nice portfolio of exemplary results. And AI is quite the eager worker.
But don't forget all the good things AI will do for us.....im sure they'll be along in a minute.

I think you know a lot more about the details behind Ai than I do, so I'm interested as to whether you think an Ai-initiatedf systems-collapse is imminent, and what checks and balances are currently keeping those wolves at bay? I genuinely don't know. I can make assumptions, but again, from seeing your contributions, you seem better placed to provide a far more accurate POV.
But who will donate to the charity now workers are being outcompeted for wages? It came good this week...
The best 'realworld' examples I saw were from a friends who both run charities. They were using various tools from Claude to an eerly testbed Google product. Website, marketing material, funding applications, branding, obviously research and then a podcast created discussing snd promoting one of the charities. Okay, the voices were Seppo as stock but we were genuinely impressed by what had been created. One charity was new and it saved them days if not weeks and huge cost. It allowed them to launch, receive funding and be in a position to then commit budget to some of those areas to give things a polish.

That’s not what happened. The CVEs were announced along with a date for a patch release, but there were no details of what the actual threat was. The issue was that people didn’t know if they could update PHP as soon as that came out, for a variety of reasons. Leaving your site/server up when a patch is out you haven’t applied it is like leaving your front door open with a gang robbing the neighbourhood. An attacker can reverse engineer the fix and then run those attacks (yes with the help of AI). So many chose the lesser of two evils and took their sites down to allow time to apply the updates.
I’m sure there have been and will continue to be sites that were attacked, but the disruption the other day certainly wasn’t “millions of attacks”.
