Lost Mango
Alan Hutton
Not looking to re-write history but only just rewatched the game on BBC highlights and not looked elsewhere.
The Robertson offside for the non-first goal. Is the BBC feed the same as the VAR feed does anyone know? Is that the official image they take off? When the Beeb stop it the ball has clearly left the foot (or is a stretched blur so is past contact) and yet the VAR lines have just a fraction a sleeves width as the offside bit. I know it 'looks' offside, I thought at the time it was offside so didn't think anything of it.
This has been debated ad nauseum on here and elsewhere about the inaccuracy of VAR for offsides and also the rule - is it when the contact with the ball is made or when the ball leaves the foot? With defender and attacker travelling in opposite directions that split second of difference is the cms that govern decisions.
This is the image the BBC froze on. That is not a precise moment in time for that ball so makes any decision on relative player position subjective.
