Sandro Tonali Official

The issue could be solved by playing Tonali and Fernandes both as #8 either side of Bentancur. But then you're accommodating him at the expense of the other two.
Be interesting to see the heat maps as I thought it looked much like Bentancur being the deeper '4' position effectively in a single pivot yesterday.

But maybe that was because we had a lot of possession and he just held back more as a safety net, and others could move forward?

That's a very fair point/perspective.
I know one thing; today we did not need both Tonali and Bentancur and we also should not be playing Fernandes as a 10 IMO.
It’s as simple as looking at the players who have played and Tonali has been inferior so far IMO to bother Bentacur and Fernandes
That’s fine as he is a quality player and will play many minutes for us
I cannot work out how the manager things the combination of all 3 is going to be creative enough at the moment

It's not, and it's a midfield that should be reserved for when we think we will be under the kosh for most of the game.

Right now, Bentancur is mopping up, intercepting, recycling and adding some aerial cover (especially in set pieces), that plus his current form means it's one of the other two that should rotate around him (on form/need, to me that means it's him or Tonali)

Yeah I fully agree
I think RDZ is trying desperately to get his favourite players on the pitch rather then what may work better

I don't think he truly does but he's tried Gallagher in the 10, he's tried Bergvall in the 10 and now he's trying Fernandes. He's trying to make the best out of a bad situation, he doesn't truly believe Fernandes is our long term 10 imo. He's just going with that until someone is fit.

So why not try Marmoush there

Marmoush might as well have played the 10 yesterday. He was never on the left hand side. Marmoush isn't a creator either, as you saw yesterday. He wants to run and again pop a pass off someone one else and then shoot. He's not looking to play passes through the lines or build up the play etc.

He was definitely kinda playing in that position but not that role
And it meant we were not attacking their right side which I found odd… more so as they didn’t even have a proper rughty back playing
