The Falklands

I have a funny feeling, that when it does run out, there will be another resource for the same greedy bastards to fight to control. There is no money in things running on something that is free to collect. It is always about the coin. The Falklands are all about the oil and the coin. I think Sea Lion is the first field to come online soon.

only a matter of time before it's water

So, long drive today*, left Ashford at 5 am and am now at Montmarault. Well now as in after dejeuner and a few glasses of the local brew.
Wrong thread I hear you cry, but actually no.
On said long drive** I had plenty of time to ruminate and ponder.
Thinking about the England result, the argies holding up banners and the general whole winners and losers, nationalist clams and the righteous.
Is there a correlation between the "shame" England feel for their colonial past and their failures*** in sport in general due to not wanting to have have the bad person tag attached to them.
It doesn't seem to bother any of the other colonial powers (not saying any were better or worse than others or that because one did it it was ok for others).
Other countries appear to be able to deal with patriotism hugely better than England.
Is it a factor?

* long drives are bad for your mental health.

** drove down France, through Paris in the time it takes to get anywhere within 40 miles of London. WTF is that all about. And French drive like maniacs, worst still their roads full of Dutch who drive like maniacs on speed. My wife asked why the Dutch have yellow number plates, I told her it was a warning.

*** yes, yes, yes the Scots and sporting failure, I know.

hahahahaha, brilliant!!!

Well, the Falkland Islands is very interesting because here we go again.

I remember as a young boy, a pretty young boy anyway, but the Falkland Islands, and I think it was a different country at that time, the UK a little bit, but they went in and they took it over.

I’m not sure they’re doing that. They have a little problem with immigration.

They have a little problem with energy and then have some other problems they have to take care of.

So, I don’t know. You know, I don’t know if they’re going to be willing to travel that far.

That is very far away. You’re talking about weeks by boat. I don’t know.

I’m sure I’ll be called into that potential disaster, but if they do, I’ll probably be able to settle, settle it out.

But right now, you have two countries that are not happy concerning the Falklands.”

Not sure what happened with the Falkland Islands in the 50s or 60s that he could be referring to, and not sure which two countries are not happy at the moment. But he will be able to settle whatever the issue is cos he is a deal maker (who has yet to make any significant international deals despite promising to fix Ukraine and Gaza on day1).
TACO taco.

As an Englishman I would say any Colonial guilt would belong to the colonists, not those of us descended from those who stayed - perhaps from a few remaining Noble and Merchant families but many of those went overseas too.
