Footballers are allowed to be plonkers, though. It’s priced in. The people who shouldn’t be plonkers are the ones who decide which of the player assets are going to be registered for league games. Those are the ones who have really fùcked up on all this.

He decided he wanted to leave.
The manager doesn't want players around that want to leave.
We've made effort to sell him to three different clubs - he turned all three down.
The squad looks like it's what the manager wanted and expected at this point in time (phase one of the rebuild).
It's an unpleasant situation, but such is life.

Well, quite. Which is still unlikely to happen, but is made slightly more likely by not registering him. To the point where his camp is at least able to deploy threats of legal action as part of their negotiation stance, even if they aren’t that credible.

I agree, it’s perplexing not to! My initial assumption was that he turned down Everton because he had a bigger offer in Saudi or Turkey. And then that didn’t work out. So now my assumption is that he really wanted to go home to Brazil early.
As I said, I don’t want to say that this whole thing has been an attempt on his part to force the club to cancel his contract, because that would suggest some real bad and selfish intent on his part. But…his actions don’t make sense to read any other way. If Everton’s issue was wages, I’m not sure what the Turkey issue was, and I’m not sure how we would agree a fee with Vasco but not Trabzonspoor.

The issue with Everton was clearly them not being able to afford his current wage and we were not smart enough to make the difference up to get it done.

Richy signed for us in 2022. I find it hard to believe that Everton couldn’t at least match the wages he is on with us , especially in a contract signed by Levy. By all accounts they are matching Grealish’s City contract.
I initially thought it was because Richy saw the Everton move as a lateral move wages wise, but he had a larger offer elsewhere. Hence his thing about not just doing what agents / the club wants anymore. But then not getting the Turkey move doesn’t make sense with that either.

Grealish is on loan, he's still getting paid by City, I'm sure Everton are contributing a percentage.
I think you are misreading the man. This situation is almost entirely on the club and manager imo.

He chose he no longer want to be here.
He chose to turn down opportunities to leave.

Why assume a negative interpretation? To say the CEO etc "clearly don't know what they are doing" is - to put it mildly -somewhat OTT. As far as I can see, not buying a quality left wing was their only failing in the transfer window.

The man has had the opportunity for 3 different moves:
A former club close to his heart
A money spinning opportunity in Turkey
A romantic opportunity with his boyhood club
These are just the ones we know about. And none of them have worked out. We also know that he asked to leave. I just don’t see how it is on the club.

The rumors at the time it collapsed were of the loyalty payment he thought he was due from Spurs of 2m that we refused to pay, so the deal dragged out. In the meantime City were finally told no on Gakpo and turned their attentions to Ndiaye, the rest is history. In Richarlson’s tweets you can see he would have been very happy to join Everton if we could have agreed something.

Indeed, Levy would likely have forced the manager to put the player in the squad irrespective of whether the manager felt it would be detrimental to performance.
