The question for me is whether or not Richarlison would've disrupted training. Often players that are on the periphery and want out can do this and it does not benefit the team. IMO the old Spurs would've had asset value as the first priority and put Richi in the squad. I'm pleased to see that we have instead backed the manager.

Depending on what you believe the reason its being dragged out in the press is because we blocked a cheaper deal for us, better deal for him to Turkey, so exactly the opposite of what you are saying, neither of us know BTW, I am just saying.

The who thing being played out how it is hardly makes us or him look great in equal measures

I have no idea what transfer move (if any) either we or he blocked but for any transfer to happen the buying club have to agree a fee with teh selling club. If Richarlison really wanted to move to Turkey then he could've taken a smaller wage to allow them to pay a bigger transfer fee to Spurs and get a deal agreed.

I'm just talking about him being left out of the squad for the first half of this season. I ask myself why would the manager have left him out of the squad? The only reason I can come up with is that he thinks he is a disruptive influence, nothing else makes sense to me. I therefore see this as the manager being backed. And I don't think that would've happened previously.

Yep, how any Spurs fan can side with Richi here is beyond me.

Quite honestly, let him go to his lawyers. they will tell him he has no case anyway. Let him go to his trade union. He'll get the same message there as well.

Richi needs to hold himself accountable for the predicament he finds himself in. He bit the hand that feeds him and is paying the price. He can pay us £10m himself and buy out his contract. Why should we lose out?

To play devil's advocate.....he stated he was looking for a new opportunity but on his terms. That could have well looked like happening. Until it didn't. So if he's not happy, he's remains at the club he's contracted with.
But then the club aren't happy and the manager ain't happy, basically because they aren't getting what they want. Just like Richie wasn't happy because he wasn't getting what he wanted.

Laws and rules rule this situation, not (their) emotions. That's why (as I said the other day) having someone that can slip into cool head rational thinking mode asap is essential.

At the end of the day the manager is the one who gets the sack so he should have the say who is in his squad and the clubs finances are not in his purview.
The player wants to leave as he's not going to play until at least January and it's his right to agree joining his preferred club as it's the clubs right to make the most they can from their asset.
Richarlson seems a very emotional guy and not the sort who thinks things through before acting, his agent could have advised him to handle the situation better.

He clearly didn't care about the club when he sold his soul on social media. You reap what you sow.

Can you quote what he said on social media and breakdown why you have a problem with it? If you have the time but no worries if not...From what I recollect, it wasn't calling anyone or the club out specifically and said he wa is available and willing to honour his contract but wants to make his own decision rather than being taken advantage of.

What's clear is currently the situation benefits neither player, or us. A lot of the rest seems like conjecture as it usually is.

I don't think the players we sold are bad eggs (though there were some rumours about Romero often being late for training under Frank) but I do think that to have the best chance of a good season a manager needs the squad to want to be there and be prepared to listen and put everything in.

Sometimes you have to create an episode in order to establish the expected behaviour among the group. Again I look at this similarly to Poch making an example of Townsend, because Townsend decided to talk back to the fitness coach after a game. I don’t think Andros was a bad egg either, but it was about establishing the expectations of respect and behaviour.

And here I really do think that the club has done right by every player that said they wanted to leave. They opened up two way lanes of communication and needed that mutual trust because any player leaving had to be replaced. We also wanted players that actively wanted to be here, not ones who say ‘I’ll go if I receive a good offer but if not I’ll honour my contract’. But also say they want to leave, then they don’t, then they do.

I think Richy deserves massive respect if he indeed turned down more money to help the club through the brick show of the last few seasons. So I can see why he now probably thinks it’s his time to make a decision for him. I think he’s just miscalculated what the club now is - we are backing the manager, we are creating real alignment among players that actually want to be here, and are firmly focused on sporting success. It’s no longer a place where you can be half in and half out.

And so I think the club are doing the right thing. Unfortunately Richy needs to be made an example of for the good of everything else we are trying to do. It will focus the minds of the other players. It will make clear the level of commitment that is expected. The risk is that it may have disrupted training to some degree in the run up to Everton and I hope it hasn’t, but these are the type of strategic decisions you take for a long term pay off.

And thats cool, but ironically loads did with Bergvall when it looked like he was to be sold and plenty laying it on about his "attitude" post game 1 which now looks silly as he signed a contract. We all want to believe in things that will hopefully make us better, but its clear some are playing up to the idea of change and gone all in with their chips.

Lets see, footballs not an exact science anymore, dissenting voices can cut deep and it does not take long for players to switch off from a managers rhetoric. RDZ needs to start winning games otherwise its not unfathomable to think that players might look at the Richy situation from the opposite side than what you are hoping for.

"I've always made it clear, at every opportunity, that any move of mine to another place would also have to be good for the club. If it wasn't, I would never accept it... just like I didn't accept it when everything here was falling apart and they needed me. I stayed and gave my life. So, I hope they treat my situation with the same respect that I've always had for the Spurs and for all the people who worked with me during this period. Just don't try to decide for me."
