Transfer thread

Are we being Enic'd
Don’t know. The window’s been good thus far. Midfield was a huge issue. Certainly in terms of passing from deeper.

Must upgrade as we need goals. Never understood us buying Solanke. 65m what a stinker.

Just to add I think our attack in this current state is the weakest it’s been in a decade or two even. Dreadful.

Look at almost every other teams business in the PL, we are ahead of the curve. We was never just going to bring in a significant signing every week, there are many moving parts and credit to the club for getting the real big deals done first without waiting for a load of outgoings first.

Unfortunately can't be helped we have to wait for the clubs we are buying from to secure their targets eg Emirates Marketing Project and maybe Liverpool sealing Barcola before we can move forward with Gakpo. Just have to be patient unfortunately, but compared to others we are doing just fine....

What happens when you take out class like Kane & Son, levels above what we have atm.

Maybe the strategy now is, lets not rush and the closer we get to the season starting the more people will panic buy and pay more.
the attack has been a problem when we sold johnson without a replacement and kudus got injured in Jan, more than half a year ago.

perhaps the there was/is a hope that a couple of those injured would be available, however.... setbacks to solanke and maddison. no dates have been given for kulu, kudus, odobert and xavi too... still so much uncertainty for transfer decisions

while we've bought well and strengthened our defence and midfield well, its still strange to me that we've not strengthened our attack at all for so long.

Because Ange never wanted a goalscoring striker but rather a target man who could keep centre halfs busy.... same with Brennan Johnson... very particular characteristics to fit his system; which we have seen with his goals drying up since Ange left, a new system introduced and then even when he went to Palace.

I understand buying Solanke... what I don't understand is replacing Ange with a completely different coach style

Well Solanke was crap at that too.

That’s the constant toxic approach that hurts us much more every time

That was the way we operated under Levy for years, he is gone now and maybe we’ll operate differently over the coming years.

He absolutely wasnt crap at that. Along with Kulu he was our best player in that first season up until his injury. It was telling how our attacking play fell apart in his absence. He was the vital cog that made it work. Sadly he doesn't seem to have ever been fully fit since then.

I think you are conflating back-to-back performances against Brentford and United as a spell. He only scored 6 goals in the first half the season (Brentford, United, Villa x2, Chelsea, Liverpool), despite playing pretty much all of every match.

Maddison (not much of a goalscorer) got 7 in that same period for comparison

Agree. This is the problem with a few of our players, and unfortunately if we want to progress we need to be ruthless with it.

It's no good keep on referring back to when they were good before getting injured, especially when that time was some time ago - same for Udogie. If injuries persist we are better off cutting our losses rather than blindly praying they at some point get back to a previous level. It's a shame, I did like what Solanke was doing for a good part of that first season but it seems to be one thing after another injury wise for him and not sure he will ever get back to where he was......
