Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

No thats cool mate, I am just trying to get a grasp on what Fauci was supposed to have done wrong, its hard to piece together on the news reports TBH and on socials its just full of people calling him a mass murderer etc, so getting down to the facts has been difficult on the subject

From what I can see some people believe he is involved in a cover-up.
He has spoken over 20 times to congress about covid, so it's reasonable to wonder what they're still hoping to get from him that he hasn't already given?

People are so blinded by their hatred of Trump and MAGA it allows a man like Fauci to be defended. The reason for so many hearings is that each time they have happened new evidence has been discovered which casts doubt on Faucis previous testimony.

In this case, his own private diary and emails, which had been subpoenaed, directly contradicted advice he gave to the public and to government officials during the pandemic so he was called back in. They also painted a disturbing picture of his behaviour even prior to Covid, where he was using government employees to solicite awards which often included a cash prizd. If you want to defend large cash awards to public figures from foreign companies go for it.

The reality is that anyone who has followed these hearings with an ounce of objectivity would see him for what he is. A man of almost limitless narcissism, obsessed by his own growing fame and adolation within the media. Prior hearing show a man desperate to squash any discussion on the origins of Covid that could lay blame as his feet.

Did Covid originate from the lab which studied noval respiratory Coronavirus in Wuhan? It may have, it may have not. But we can’t even collectively agree that Fauci tried to cover up the possibility of that, then the basic conditions do not exist to even begin an intelligent discussion.

I haven't followed it and this is a genuine question/observation I suppose.

Wasn't the advice given pretty much similar to the world? I mean I can't remember so you can likely tell me better, but we all really more of less all followed the same path with lockdowns etc etc etc.

As for the lab theories, I think thats massively complex given the US intelligence at the time and Trumps insistence that it started in a Lab

My question would be, how did both parties, the intelligence and Trump come up with their theories if there was a cover up? Or where they also lying? I think thats a fair question to ask

I suppose he frequently made Trump look like an absolute arse during Covid, so I’d imagine revenge is the bottom line.
Exactly this and also a certain amount of attempting to rewrite history and shift blame. Trump's mishandling of COVID resulted in 10's of thousands of unnecessary deaths (which he paid no political price for). Without Fauci and a few more responsible people trying to steer the ship it would have been who knows how many more.

I have several really good friends in Manchester, not one of them would want rid of curry mile, most of them are pretty proud of it.

Same with brick lane. It's a treasure. As is Southall and Green Lane.

Some people just done like to see brown people but still want the flavour

Also I've never seen fury about China Town like I do about Brown and black areas.

Yeh, like I am of Brick lane, I absolutely love that area of London. Love Korea Town in New Malden, China Town, Edgware Road for a world class Shawarma. You can't beat areas like that. They have also been a great part of our communities for decades.

Apologies, I deleted my post because, well, what's the point LOL.

Happy to offer my view. I think Fauci feels he is potentially being set-up with this hearing.
He was advised to plead the 5th by lawyers.
Rand Paul posited this at the end of the hearing: "Did [Fauci’s] actions lead to the largest man-made plague in history?").

This is a reasonable summary of the latest.

Only Rand Paul knows what he wants from this hearing, and I honestly don't wish to guess. There does appear to be an obsession with Fauci/making him a spacegoat for covid??? Obviously that would be farcical.

I just think casually saying that someone was pleading the 5th to 'avoid soundbites' trivializes something just a tad deeper. Call me old-fashioned eh? 🤪😉...

Fair enough - think the soundbites are important though as that it is how so much of the dis-information is sent out to those open to hearing that Covid was some sort of scam etc etc.

Agree Rand Paul is after more blood though.

What Fauci did 'wrong' was respond to the science and not just tag along with trump on his bleach and other non-treatments. Trump etc want a spacegoat that isn't them for the whole thing.

My memory is hazy on the whole thing, as I say, I have Covid rubbish fatigue, but surely the power to enforce these rules was on the leaders? Surely if people are saying the blame lies with Fauci, it lies with Trump also given he had the ultimate power to do as wished? I just fail to understand what is being gained from this?

The migrant boat crisis is clearly a massive issue and the scenes of the French allowing them to leave their shores goes a long way to show how complex an issue it is. I just don't see a way that stops them.

I’d have to know when that article was from.

As in. You don’t see a way that stops the French from not giving a fudge or you don’t see a way to stop the boats coming?

Both, 1 why would they and 2 beyond that how do you stop them? I am truly interested to hear ideas on what people think would work (not Rwanda FFS haha).

I suspect your not up for putting in place physical barriers that would prevent the boats from being able to get to shore. So the only option is to completely remove the incentive structure

This means the possibility of being able to ever build a life in Britain is completely removed if you enter illegally. Along with heavily prosecuting businesses that employ anyone without work authorization

There is no reason why a genuine asylum seeker with a valid claim would cross the French channel on a rubber dingy over simply getting on a flight or ferry and entering via an official port of entry. It’s cheaper, safer and your offered a level of protection and support upon arrival.

It’s therefore fair to assume that anyone entering the UK illegally does not have a valid asylum claim. It’s also fair to assume that anyone arriving without a passport or valid ID does not want us to know who they are. So you prosecute them and they are imprisoned until they can be deported back to their country of origin.
