World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

This really highlights the conversations that have been had of late about the lack of top quality footballers. You look at this Dutch side, the Brazilian side the other night and they are full of bang average players and you compare to their World Cup teams of the past brimming nowith top class players.

Really is sad to see....
That but also people hold certain nations in their heads as being of a certain elite level desire all the evidence to the contrary because historically they were that, but if you actually watch and pay attention to what they have these days it's just not the case.

Take Brazil for example, they had flipping Richy getting games for them not that long ago. In no Brazil pre 2014 squad would he have ever even been considered, the depth they had was too deep and the quality too high.

People are are stuck in the top nation legacy mindset but the Netherlands haven't been a top team in over a decade and the calibre of player they produce now is nothing like the quality that they produced in the 90s and 00s, there is literally no comparison. Those two nations used to be filled to the brim with world class technicians. Now they are both meh.

Football I think has became too machine like. A player with any discernable quality gets scouted too early and plucked out of their home league meaning they lose that critical time where they develop in their unique football culture. As a result they just become your generic homogenised European top 5 league guy. It used to be the case that each football culture created a certain type of player, Spain, the Balkans, Argentina, Brazil, The Netherlands, Scandinavian, Germany etc, etc, etc now they for the most part are just churning out identikits. We've lost the flair, the outrageous technique, the vision, the passing.

Never judge on a World Cup
We have made that mistake way too many times
But he did look very good last night/this morning

I've seen him for a few years. He's got lots to learn, but he has all of the unteachable things. Needs a good coach and a good environment to develop and he could turn into anything.

Bergvall on vs Tunisia showing very good positioning and quick feet. Covering a lot of ground but not as involved in attack as i had hoped

Sweden are the luckiest clams ever! 1 points in the qualification and then fluke their way trough by some random play-off, where they again get the easiest draw possible, and then score 5 goals from 7 shots, 2 of them worldies from the same guy, who'll never score a goal like those ever again!
They're more lucky than Arse!

Graham Potters Yellow and Blue army!

Fair enough

Actually, how are they actually in the world cup as they finishsed bottom of their qualifying group from when i last looked??
That's the point!
They got through by some Nations league back door play-off thing, were they were drawn "away" to Ukraine, and then Poland at home, we're they got played off the park, but somehow managed to fluke a win!

Give it a rest, nothing to apologize for by snatching qualification from the jaws of defeat

Focus on Iraq instead, and don't forget your golden jacket...

any one notice that this world cup ball is VERY fast when shot properly? so many keepers seeing the ball early seems to underestimate its arrival

Looking forward to the Spain game later, shame Belgium don't have the talent they once did. Can finally cross them off the dark horses list.

Booo, boring game. Spain desperately need a Lamine Yamal. Well done to Cape Verde for not conceding. Their goalie is 40 and has played really well so far.
