You’re right that the 24 years weren’t a complete failure. The point, though, is that some people already seem impatient less than a year after Levy’s departure, which feels strange considering the amount of patience and time he was given.

It's because ENIC remain at the top - If it were new owners coming in then I'd expect that there would be a reset of patience.

Pretty much. Though, the thing that gives me a smidgen of sympathy for Viv Lewis and her brother (and really, I mean an infinitesimally small smidgen here), is that there really does seem to be a generational passing of the torch going on at ENIC, from 90+ year old Joe, to his kids.

The ENIC defined by Joe and his henchman Dan was one thing, and our long and painful history with that miserly regime is what (fairly) causes people to give all this Lewis family waffling a short shrift.

The Lewis kids may or may not run the club in the same way, but certainly they're not Joe and/or Dan. So tarring them with the same brush is a smidge unfair.

Having said that, if the chief sins of Joe and Dan were miserliness and an inability to see the wood for the trees, Viv and her brother seem to have a new sin added on top - of either incompetence, or trusting the wrong people. Which is which will soon become clear, as will any chance of them actually breaking from their dad and his henchman in terms of spending on the club they own.

That statement painted them into a corner. Up to them to find a way out of it.

To be fair, of the comments I saw, most were respectful, even if they were profoundly negative towards the owners (as is natural).

I'm not sure I would have been as respectful if comments had been open on some of Levy's past chairman's messages - club would probably have put in for an ASBO based on the things I could have said. :p

You can think he was the best chairman he lost my faith in 2011. Our standards and expectations are clearer different. You're willing to accept failure and will make excuses for it, whereas I do not.

But my point was unless this a cult of personality why are people asking for the new guys to be sacked 8 months in when they've given Levy at the minimum 6 years of consistent and protracted failure and would probably still have him here right now.

Again where is the consistency?

But these same people hadn't run out of patience with Levy. They were more than willing to have still run the club. The complaints now are nothing about a reset and instead the cult of personality being upset their man is no longer in charge.

I see Levy/ENIC are one and the same but i do see what you mean about those who are NOW lambasting ENIC but never lambasted Levy in the same way (despite many opportunities to do so lol)

First CL season after all the years of building towards it. We finally achieved his goal, now we needed to push on otherwise what exactly was the pint of qualifying? Was it just to increase the turnover? To increase the clubs value or was it to actually improve the sporting credentials? What was the most glaring and obvious problem of the previous season? The lack of a striker that could finish the absolutely oodles of chances we were creating. We all knew we needed reinforcement in the forward line. That was the summer we were linked with Forlan, Damiao, Cavani etc because we needed a striker. What did we get? fudge all.

Real Madrid saved our disaster of a window on the last day by offering us VDV. Which placated many fans but it was a facade despite how good he was, he's not a striker a striker was our number 1 priority. The following season we suffered as predicted. Crouch and Defoe both got 4 goals that season despite the amount of chances we made. They couldn't finish their breakfast. It was that lack of a striker that eventually had us get Adebayour on loan 2 years after the point we actually needed one. As the chairman it was his responsibility to oversee the progression of the club and team. The fact that he would rather win financially in negotiations than actually improve his team and improve it's prospects on the pitch told me everything I needed to know and it was from that point that I knew Levy was not the man to take us forward.

They are absolutely one and the same. It's always been ENIC out for next I don't really separate them as entities. I just find the hypocrisy amusing. The favourite can have the job forever, floundering this way and that. They replace him and you judge the replacement as if he's been in the job for 10 years fudging it up.

The new guys are even getting the blame for the very circumstances that the golden child Levy created. It's comedy gold. 🤣🤣🤣

I think that after last few seasons that was actually beginning to shift.

You have to remember people will have built their opinion up on Levy over many years, positive or negative. If you value the job he had done overall then there will be a level of patience that afforded him room for mistakes that the new Execs haven't yet earned.

But regardless, the decision was made to make the change and so there needs to be an improvement to justify it.

The new leaders need to earn respect, absolutely. But they are eight months into cleaning up a massive inherited mess. It’s completely hypocritical to demand immediate perfection from them while giving the person who actually caused the chaos a free pass.

Btw I'm not excusing ENIC at all, I'm ENIC out more than I am Levy out but I don't like hypocrisy when I see it and will call out out.

Levy had some credentials. He'd run his own company (Blue Inc) and had worked in football (Rangers, AEK, Slavia)

Silverton and Lewis have never had a day job between them. They are yacht club yah yahs who have spent their entire gilded lives regatta-ing with the Epstein class
